Douglas Riddle Explains Current Scams

 

Guest Speaker, Douglas Riddle explained some of the current scams that are being played on folks which have resulted in bilking the unsuspecting out of huge sums of money. One of the recent ploys is based on the fact that Social Security is issuing new account numbers starting next year. Callers falsely present themselves as agents of the Social Security Administration and ask for personal information presumably to update official government records. In reality, the data will be used to steal your identity. Another common ploy is to tell folks that they failed to show up for jury duty and now to have pay a fine immediately or face jail time. Mr. Riddle stated that the government will never call you. All government correspondence is done via mail. Mr. Riddle said that we all need to beware no matter how official a call sounds.
