Today marks eleven days until the end of the 2016-2017 Rotary year, Serving Humanity and "having fun". We are with in $500 of making this the Emmaus Rotary Clubs best year ever in giving the Rotary Foundation! As this is the 100th year of the Foundation, it's certainly fitting. Let's finish strong and mark the centennial as our best by breaking $45,000!
“Manon Lefebvre, our French exchange student, joined us at the June 15, 2017 breakfast meeting along with one of her host family members, Clare Harvey. Manon shared several highlights of her United States experience throughout this past year. Her involvement in Emmaus High School’s spring musical, “Miss Saigon”, was the most memorable experience of her school year. Involvement in the musical enabled her to meet many new friends. Manon was proud of the numerous Freddy Awards that Emmaus earned for their exceptional performance. Manon also enjoyed numerous visits to New York City. She loves Broadway and was able to see several shows during her stay in the United States. Manon feels sad to leave the United States but plans to return if she is able to study abroad while in college as a journalism major.”
It's that time of year already! Time for our annual Rotary District 7430 Changeover Dinner! Please join us as we celebrate this past Rotary year, present Governor's Awards to eligible Clubs and welcome incoming District Governor Rick Gromis to his year!

July 13, 2017.......Alisa Bowman Speaks About Transgender People
Rotary is a place where members get informed about subjects of interest in the community, especially on topics where there is a lack of information. Transgender people are becoming a more common topic in the media, in legislation and in our community.
National Geographic in January 2017 and Time Magazine on Mar 15, 2017 did cover stories on trans people. An article in January 2017 The Rotarian magazine page 30 discussed transgender Rotarians. The Morning Call covered a trans student in East Penn School District in September 2016. In 2017, the Boy Scouts allowed transgender children in their programs.
There are about 92 transgender people living in Macungie and 34 transgender people live in Emmaus, based on 0.3 percent of the US are transgender people.
Our speaker July 13th is the mom of a transgender child in Emmaus and will tell you her family’s story. She is also the co-author of a book on the subject called Raising the Transgender Child: A Complete Guide for Parents, Families, and Caregivers by Michele Angello and our speaker Alisa Bowman. Jim Palmquist will have a copy of the book to give away to anyone who is interested in reading more about the topic. The first one to ask Jim for the book gets it!
