Rotary's call to help
I believe that many of us do not remember what Rotary stands for and what causes we are looking to aid for the benefit of all mankind.  See above the six areas of cause we pursue to make the world a better place for all.  When we join Rotary we usually join because some person, friend, or significant other thought we would be a benefit to an organization that puts these six causes at the fore-front of their community service here and abroad.   That someone in my life was Eric Loch who knew I was looking for something for me that could give back to the community that supported my small business at the time.

Geocaching 101
Emmaus Rotary heard about the fun of geocaching from Mike Waddell, Trumpet editor and vice-president on February 14, 2019.  With laser pointer in hand, Waddell used a power point presentation to give the history and protocols of geo (Earth) caching (hiding). The activity which now has 3 million enthusiasts and over 3 million caches world-wide began shortly after President Clinton released the military's global position system for public use in May 2000. After downloading a free app, seekers use GPS to get close to the hidden spot. Then it's all about persistent looking. Some caches contain SWAG or "Track-ables" for an extra incentive.

Newsletter Survey Completed....Thanks!
Many thanks to the 47 ERC members who completed the newsletter survey and gave me their thoughts about what is working well and some possible changes.  I'll share the overall results of the survey in another article, but, for now I am making two changes.  First, the Upcoming Events in the left column will be moved up for easier access.  As part of this move the Calendar of Events/Here's What's Happening at the bottom of the newsletter will be phased out as the events happen...no new items will be placed in that spot.  Also, using the Events widget allows the event chairs to access some functionality to send emails, etc. that should be helpful to them. Second,

Collection for Turning Point in January and February

      Fellow Rotarians,
Community Service decided at a previous meeting to do a collection drive in the month of January and February in support of Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley where victims of abuse and their children find refuge.  We are going to be collecting new twin blankets and comforters to support their great cause.  We will collect through the end of February and deliver in the beginning of March.  If you have any further questions, please speak to Nicole Steirer.  Thank you again for your continued support. It is truly inspiring when we support great organizations with our donations.
