APR 16, 2020 CLUB ASSEMBLY- ZOOM
Thursday April 16 we will ZOOM into our normal regular MSR Meeting. Our topic tentatively will be a Morning Star Rotary Club Assembly where will address all things Rotary.

As with normal meetings, you are please encouraged to sign in early and join the ZOOM so that we can enjoy "cyber fellowship" and have everyone connected prior to commencing the meeting.

To provide additional cyber security to our weekly Zoom meetings, we will not send the ZOOM info in the bulletin. Please check your email for information from Club Secretary, Val Walk for access to this meeting.
MSR GIFT CARD PROJECT
Morning Star Rotary Grocery Store Gift Card Project

At Morning Star Rotary’s most recent board meeting a decision was made to engage in a new fundraiser to purchase grocery store gift cards to be distributed to families in need in the Bethlehem area.

A pool of matching funds has been donated by Morning Star board members and is matched by our Club’s reserves in the amount of $1500.  The funding from the Club budget comes from unused items which will not be expended due to the effects of the pandemic on our operations.  The funds from the board members are from donations which they have made as individuals.  This results in a total of $3,000 which will be used to match the donations of our club members and friends of the club who will be asked to donate.

A donation of $25 will result in making a $50 gift card to Giant Food Stores available to a family in need.  We will distribute these Gift Cards with the assistance and judgement of school principals in the Bethlehem Area School District, the Director of the Hispanic Center of Bethlehem, and the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem.  Further, Giant Food Stores will add 10% more gift cards to our purchase to enhance the effect of our project.

To make a donation to this project you may go to the “Donate” icon at the top of the Morning Star Rotary home page. Note: you do not need a PayPal account to donate via PayPal - your debit or credit card is fine! The link includes a field for a description or comment. Please type in that your donation is for Grocery Gift Cards. (This same link will be used to collect funds for a variety of club purposes.)
Another option is to mail your check, paid to the order of “Morning Star Rotary” c/o J. Searfoss, Treasurer, 1409 Bogie Ave. Wescosville, PA 18106.

Please share this appeal with people outside of the club membership who you feel may have an interest in this effort.  Also, club members  are encouraged to donate resources which otherwise would be used for breakfast or Artisan First Thursday meeting expenses, as well as funds which would be expended for other club fund raisers during the balance of this Rotary year.

Our goal is to distribute 132 gift cards of $50 each to families in need in Bethlehem.  Service above Self by People of Action will result in homes with food on the table to our neighbors in need.

Yours in Service,
Mike Long, on behalf of the Morning Star Rotary Board members
MSR WELCOMES SHARON BROWN
Last Thursday we had the distinct pleasure of inducting Sharon Brown as our newest member. President Mike Long initiated the action handing off to Secretary Val Walk who in turn asked sponsor Janet Sipple to do the honors of a thorough and extensive introduction of Sharon. Clearly a new member who will have an impact on the continued success of our club. A unique experience conducting this via ZOOM!

SHELTER BOX UPDATE 4-9-2020
April 9 our program was a ShelterBox Update zoomed by our District Ambassadors Bill Tuszynski and Henry Tur. The program went exceptionally well. They highlighted how ShelterBox is continuously adapting to the needs of people everywhere.

There is now a Tool Kit which allows people to stay in their houses while repairing damages to existing structures. A new development has been a SB School Kit which addresses the basic educational needs of children adversely impacted by the disasters around the world.

The latest COVID19 situation has created exceptional challenges in relief camps where “social distancing” takes on a whole new meaning.

We tend to think of ShelterBox providing relief in areas impacted by natural disasters. Unfortunately, they pointed out the Top 5 areas SB is currently servicing are all conflict zones of varying degrees.

Make a note on your calendars for September 12, 2020 when our Ambassadors will once again conduct a ShelterBox fundraiser at Putt U in Center Valley. Come out and have some fun for a great cause.

Note of interest:  District 7430 is the #1 ShelterBox supporting district in the USA.
