More Than a Hike with the Helmuths
Please join us Jan 10, 2019 7:30 am for a presentation of a very unique experience with Ron and Elena Helmuth.

More than a hike: Walking the Medieval Pilgrimage Way of St. James/Camino de Santialgo

Ron and Elena Helmuth spent 10 days walking 123 miles on the Camino, in northern Spain, in October of 2018. It was a hike, but it was also a pilgrimage, whatever that means. Ron and Elena will share stories from the Camino,  what pilgrimage meant for them, what they learned about themselves.

See you Thursday!
President's Message 1-08-19
“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.  Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something.
― Neil Gaiman

These words make me think a lot about our Rotary world.  Rotarians and Clubs all over are trying new ways to do things; to survive, thrive and grow.

Morning Star Rotary has been trying some new things lately.  Evening meetings, Rotary road trips, changing the makeup of the board, simplifying by-laws, rolling 50/50 with playing cards, assessing funding & grants and more. We will probably continue to keep trying new things.  Hopefully all with not too many mistakes.  But, all with the vision that these changes will assure that MSR is here 30 years from now.

So, at the start of 2019 we sayTHANK YOU for your membership, contributions and support of our club.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Dick Roberts MSR President 2003-04
President 2003-04
Rotarians,

It is with much sadness that I share longtime Morning Star Rotarian, Dick Roberts passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Dick was a charter member of our club and served the club as President. Dick was especially proud of serving as President while we raised $50,000 over two years in support of the St. Luke's Union Station Dental Clinic.

We will be honoring Dick with a memorial donation.

Yours in Rotary Service,
Janet

SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING
Morning Star Rotary was very successful with the Annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing: event
December 8 at Christkindlmarkt raised nearly $1,298 from 10 to 4 pm!
On December 15 at the Moravian Book Shop from 10 to 6 pm raised $782. (Although a little disappointing with the weather and a lot less people, Major Rader indicated their regular people rarely exceed $300 for this location. So we did good!)

MSR fundraising for Salvation Army for 2018 was a total of $2,080!

Thank you all for the tremendous effort! Hope this gives you a warm fuzzy for the whole year!

HOLIDAY PARTY SATURDAY JAN 5

Ho Ho Ho and Happy New Year!!

Our warm friendly HOLIDAY PARTY tradition continued, again graciously hosted by Mike & Terri Long!

Over 30+ Morning Star Rotarians and Significant Others joined the celebration sharing various foods, libations and excellent desserts.

We wish to thank our hosts, Mike & Terri, for opening their home for all the fellowship.
Some were quite accepting of the arrangement of having the Colts taking down the Texans.

Happy New Year to Everyone!

SHELTER BOX UPDATE
We had the pleasure at our January 3, meeting to have Bill Tuszynski, District Shelter Box Chair, provide an in depth update on the status of Shelter Box. There continues to be evolutions in design and adaptations to address changing needs.

Last year placements exceeded 200,000 units with the five year plan to provide over 1,000,000 units deployed throughout the world annually.

Support for the program derives primarily from individual Rotarians globally and a modest corporate support level. It is not supported financially by RI. So every dollar you give to Shelter Box makes a significant difference.
