AUG 3, 2023 FIRST THURSDAY

Our Morning Star Rotary, August First Thursday Happy Hour will be this Thursday, August 3rd starting at 5:30pm. Please note change of venue for August only.

The enclosed patio will be available at the  restaurant for our social meeting.  Everyone will order off the menu for food/drinks and pay individually. The club is not collecting the usual $10, and is not providing appetizers.

This is a perfect opportunity to bring friends and family and to discuss what Rotary is all about in a casual setting.

See everyone on Thursday.
Betty

JUL 27, 2023 DISTRICT GOVERNOR VISIT
We were very happy to welcome District Governor Diane Donaher for her "official visit" as DG, but a homecoming celebration as well. With great enthusiasm - imagine that! Diane spoke to many topics in explaining her vision to be a Beacon of Hope in the District. A key focus is that it is Okay to talk about anxiety. Rotary is fully embracing the need to address mental health and wellness. Diane has a semi-colon tat on her wrist which reminds her and tells everyone to strive to be open to discussion.

Another key to helping Rotary and our communities is to reach out and invite people to help in a service project. Everyone has busy lives, but there are many opportunities outside of meetings to engage people and their families and friends by simply participating in community projects of our clubs.

Diane challenged everyone with the Phone Contact Trick - just click on your phone and look in your contacts to find two people you could invite to an event, project, social, etc.

Bottom line - MORE MEMBERS EQUALS MORE SERVICES!

JAN 29 - FEB 10 2024 Kenya Grants and Next Trip Updates - Looking for Volunteers
Good Afternoon MSR!
I hope that everyone is enjoying a safe and happy holiday weekend.

I wanted to update everyone about our two Kenyan grants and invite anyone who is interested to consider coming with us on our next Kenyan working adventure!

Our District Grant - The Machakos School Revitalization School Grant has received final approval from RI. We expect to receive District Grant funds in August and the project will move forward that month as there is a school holiday.

Our Maternal and Child Global Grant has completed all the fine print and the funds have been released to the Isiolo Club. That project will be ongoing for many months and we will provide updates.

Both projects are expected to have additional phases, funded by Rotarians and/or other interested partners so we are planning a second, self-funded trip in late January and would love to include anyone who is interested in joining the team.
Here are the tentative details of the trip:
Dates: Jan 28th - returning Feb 10th (landing in US)
Estimated cost: $3000-$3500: which includes double occupancy lodging, most food, all in-country transportation, economy airfare from JFK (which at this point is around $900) to Nairobi and some fun excursions.
Estimated costs are subject to change and do not include: transportation to JFK, your trip to the travel doctor, visa ($45?), passport, souvenir shopping, alcohol etc..., Last trip, covid vaccines were mandatory to enter the country so if you are an anti-vaxer....
Also note, there is not a single bottle of diet coke in the entire country of Kenya, starting when you get on the plane - but all of the food and drink is delicious

Please talk to Susan (me) Wendy, Janet or Holly if you have additional questions as to how life changing this experience will be. Maximum travelers is 8 (I think) so at this point we have room for 5 more.
