Welcome to April - Maternal and Child Health Month!
This topic is of particular interest to Bethlehem Morning Star because it will be the main focus of our first ever global grant. Working locally with the Rotary Club of Isiolo in Kenya and growing momentum among other District #7430 Clubs, we have submitted the first of our multi-phase grant. The first phase will improve the capacity and equipment for a maternity ward, along with the water supply and sanitation, at a public health dispensary that serves 40 villages in Isiolo County. Thank you to everyone who helped us take the first steps in this exciting journey!
District Governor Bob Hobaugh has invited District 7430 Rotarians and friends for an inspirational talk about Maternal and Child Health issues on April 12 at 7:00 PM ET. Our presenters will be Dr. John Townsend, Chair of the Reproductive, Maternal & Child Health Rotary Action Group, and Dr. Pallavi Deshpande, a microbiologist and COO at Vithal Institute of Child Health in Dharwad, India.imageimage
Dr. John works to improve the coverage, quality and sustainability of reproductive health service delivery systems. He will tell us about the mission of RMCH RAG to save women’s lives.
Dr. Pallavi will tell us about the importance to infant health of mother’s milk banks, including one developed with the assistance of the Bethlehem Rotary Club in Pune, India, and proposed milk banks in Dharwad, India.
Many have asked how we, as Rotarians, can support the good people of Ukraine during this most devastating time. Rotary International and District #7430 have sent out some helpful information.
In response to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, the Rotary Foundation has made the Disaster Response Fund available as the official channel for contributions. All donations made online at [Disaster Response Fund | My Rotary] including the use of available district designated funds (DDF), need to be received by April 30, 2022 to qualify for use in support of the Ukrainian relief efforts. I made a donation today to see how it worked. It was very quick and efficient. Please make sure you have a My Rotary login before you begin in order to keep record of your donation. This will be the main avenue for Rotary Foundation support, but Rotary and Rotaract clubs are also encouraged to create their own responses to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
For those who prefer to gamble a little, rather than giving directly...
