Aug 27 Program- POST-COVID PATIENT THERAPY & RECOVERY
KELLEY LIMBAUAN & SUSAN GOLDEN therapists at  GOOD SHEPHERD REHABILITATION will join us Thursday August 27, 2020 to discuss

Post-COVID Patient: Therapy and Recovery

In response to COVID-19, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network developed a comprehensive rehabilitation program to help patients recover more fully from the illness. Therapists will present details about the specialized program, which helps patients gain strength, improve balance, reduce pain and improve function.

Please plan to log in early to enjoy the fellowship and support our District Governor!

To provide additional cyber security to our weekly Zoom meetings, we will not send the ZOOM info in the bulletin. Please check your email for information from Club Secretary, Val Walk for access to this meeting.
Visitors are welcome and encouraged. For access information, please reach out to any MSR member or email Val Walk valerie.walk@rcn.com. Be happy to get you on board!

It is a great opportunity for members who could not come to meetings in person to reconnect with Rotary friends!

We encourage everyone to bring a friend. As a member you can simply forward the email from Val with the access information.

Hope to see you Thursday!

PRESIDENT JOHN'S UPDATE
Morningstar Members, Family and Friends,

To those of you that haven't participated in any of the club's Zoom meetings since we stopped getting together in person, WE MISS YOU!

Please consider checking in and letting us know how you're doing, whether you need anything, or just want to chat.  It's as easy as clicking on the Zoom meeting link in your weekly club invitation email, either from your laptop or simply from your smartphone.  If you don't have a PC camera/mic or just don't want your morning "bed head" to be seen, etc. you can just join for the audio portion and listen in/say Hi, if you would prefer.  If you need Zoom tech support, either Jean Searfoss (when she gets back from vacation) or Shawn Deiter can probably schedule a quick test session with you.

For those of you that are thinking that Zoom just isn't the same as in person contact, I have good news!  Thanks to Rick Santee, next week's Sept. 3rd First Thursday 5:30ish get together will be held outside, weather permitting, at the Moravian Advent Church parking lot located at 3730 Jacksonville Rd. next to the Bethlehem Community Center.  Masks, social distance, and bring your own everything rules will be in effect so you can safely see your friends and get some fresh air just like (almost) back in the "good old days".

Hopefully we'll see you then!

Yours in Rotary Service,

John Oesmann
MSR President

AUG 20, 2020 DG JANET KOLEPP VISIT
Thursday August 20, 2020 District Governor, Janet Kolepp gave an update on  District 7430 and the “new norms.”

The theme for her visit was “Together, we grow Rotary.” Wherever Rotarians meet, it is all about making and sustaining friendships for life. Our core values of fellowship, integrity, diversity, service, and leadership are what bring us, and keep us, together.

Recent years have seen an explosion in Rotary resources. The online Learning Center is loaded with information. The public image and branding campaign allows Clubs to promote with a unified presence around the world. District 7430 has a Public Image Committee to help Clubs take advantage of social media.

Janet shared the newest District video that showcased local Rotarians including a terrific segment on our own Susan Burnett. She noted that Morning Star Rotary was one of 33 local Clubs to receive the Presidential Citation in 2019-20. Our District ranked first out of 43 Districts in our geographic area in terms of increased membership. A big part of the increase was the establishment of Satellite Clubs in Harleysville and Springfield Township.

Our District support of ShelterBox was the highest in the United States. Our District ShelterBox Team is hosting a virtual fundraiser on October 9. Our support for PolioPlus increased by 37% as we raised over $82,000. This year’s Polio race will be virtual but an online event on October 24 will feature an appearance by former Rotary International Vice President Mike McGovern who has been leading the Polio campaign for many years. Remember, the Gates Foundation will double every donation to the Polio campaign.

Many thanks to Janet for the tremendous job she is doing in support of our Rotary District!

Janet Kolepp
District Governor 2020-2021

Rotary Opens Opportunities
As RI President Holger Knaack declared at the Rotary International Assembly earlier this year, Rotary isn’t just a club for people to join, but rather an invitation to endless opportunities. Rotary Opens Opportunities — everything we do opens another opportunity for someone, somewhere, said Knaack. Rotary opens pathways for members to improve their lives and the lives of those they help through service projects. Rotary opens leadership opportunities and gives members the chance to travel the world to put their service ideas into action and make lifelong connections.

Knaack continues to encourage Rotary to be open to new approaches and embrace change. In 2020-21, he recommends that every club have at least one strategic planning meeting. At that meeting, members should use Rotary’s Action Plan to guide their discussions, asking themselves what they want their club to be like in five years and how they can bring more value to their members.

The 2020-21 Rotary Citation will recognize clubs’ accomplishments that are related to Rotary’s strategic priorities and make a positive difference in their communities. Encourage your clubs to work toward the citation’s goals.

Read how you can take action.

Membership and New Club Development Month

August is Membership and New Club Development Month, a time to recognize our members and the amazing work they do in their communities. In 2020, Rotarians around the world are finding ways to open opportunities, showing their incredible commitment to making the world a safer and better place. Read their stories.

Membership Month is also a time to consider how people can engage with Rotary. Learn about how you can grow membership through service, develop leaders, find new opportunities to network, and build a community within Rotary’s global family.
