SHELTERBOX SUPPORT LETTER

At the May 2, 2024 Global Grant Committee Meeting, the members agreed to send a letter of support to ShelterBox for IRC Gilbert Mato's request for Shelter Kits.  Linda Mayger, Janet Kolepp and Donna Holton have been working with and supporting Shelterbox for years and know ShelterBox USA President Kerri Murray well. With strong guidance from Linda, who served as the D7430 ShelterBox coordinator and is still a ShelterBox Ambassador, a letter was composed and sent via email to them.

"We know ShelterBox resources are limited, and we respect their aid allocation process, but nonetheless, we hope our voices might help the cause in East Africa." DH

Dear Kerri,

We are writing today regarding a situation close to our hearts.  As you are likely aware, the devastating flooding in East Africa has destroyed property, displaced thousands of people, brought about immense loss of life, and is projected to worsen.  This is directly affecting people we know in Rotary District 9212, which has placed an urgent request for Shelter Kits.  We know that one of the deployment decision criteria is whether there are willing partners in the area, and that, once a deployment decision is made, you’ll need support in the region.

Through our club’s work on several projects in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Isiolo and Machakos, Kenya, we’ve come to know Gilbert Mato, the Emergency Response Coordinator for the four D9212 East African countries. Our club has sent teams to visit the area twice.

As you consider D9212’s request, we can attest to the efficiency and skill of Gilbert and his team, many of whom work in large NGOs and have government connections. They have experience in large-scale relief efforts and would be outstanding deployment partners for you.

Thank you for all that you are doing throughout the globe for the world’s most vulnerable people. Your help is so desperately needed.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Bethlehem Morning Star Rotarians
