Morning Star Rotary welcomed our Rotary Exchange Students on November 13, 2025.
French Cultural Exchange
Zac Whitehouse, our Rotary Short-Term Exchange Student this past summer, discussed his experiences during a cultural exchange in France, noting the laid-back attitude of the French and their receptiveness to his initiatives. He expressed his intention to minor in French in college and become fully fluent. Zac also shared his observations on cultural interactions, including the mutual respect between French and American cultures, and his plans to participate in a long-term outbound exchange to Switzerland in his senior year. Additionally, he described his experiences hosting a French student in the United States, highlighting the differences in eating habits and food shopping practices between the two cultures.
Exchange Student's US Experience
Nicolas Medina, our Long -Term Exchange Student this school year from Bolivia, shared his experiences living with his host family and making friends in the United States. He discussed the differences between his current school and his school in Bolivia, noting that American schools are easier but offer more class selection. We would like to give a big MSR thank you to all of our "Salute the Troops" Concert supporters. We wish to finalize the finance reports from the concert so that the Board of Directors at its December meeting can determine the allocations amounts from the proceeds. A brief reminder to all MSR members....It's not too late for any members who have not yet contributed ticket money/donations to send a check to our MSR Treasurer, Jean Searfoss at 1409 Bogie Ave., Allentown, PA 18106. Our hope is that all members will pay for their ticket allotment so that our annual grant to support Victory House can be as generous as possible. Thank you in advance for your support!
Our annual Holiday Meeting will be held at The Cathedral Church of the Nativity on the corner of 3rd and Wyandotte Streets. The meeting will be located in Sayre Hall where we will ring in the holidays in our usual MSR style and be entertained by the Liberty High School A Capella Choir and our resident accordionist, Rick Santee.
We will have approximately 40 students performing for us this year. Please consider sponsoring a student(s) breakfast at $10 per student. We will have a sign-up sheet at upcoming meetings or you can notify Sheila Seifert (Sheila Seifert E-mail). In addition, to assist in planning catering, please RSVP to Sheila indicating your intention to attend and # of people attending.
Parking is available at the church with lots accessible from Wyandotte (upper lot) or 3rd Street (lower lot). You may also park at our usual Flatiron lots for a short walk to the Cathedral. The parish hall is accessible from both parking lots with elevator access from the lower lot. The hall is on the same level as the entrance from the upper lot.
Bethlehem Emergency Shelter, in partnership with The Freezer Ministry and Garden Gatherers, will be hosting a Hut on Main Street in downtown Bethlehem in November and December to collect donations, and bring awareness about the unsheltered and food insecurity by handing out cookies. They expect to hand out over 5,000 holiday cookies and snickerdoodle bars this year. If you are interested in baking or sponsoring cookies, contact Cookie Coordinator Blake Messman at 484-894-3295.
