Thursday, July 30 we had our official visit from District Governor, Doug Cook.
Doug spoke to us on what is planned in the District this year. Major emphasis will be addressing membership. Doug suggested when faced with the question “What is Rotary?”, instead of the elevator response of 1.2 million members in over a hundred countries dedicated to Service Above Self, think of why you are a Rotarian. Explain to the prospect what Rotary means to YOU, and how you incorporate the Four Way Test into your life.
The Rotary Foundation is another key aspect of our Rotary involvement of real importance. It will change your life. Money put into the Foundation will return to the District in three years to be employed in our communities after having done a world of good globally.
Polio continues to be in need of support. The eradication efforts have been fantastically successful but the battle is not yet over. The Gates Foundation has committed to a 2:1 match to achieve the final goal.
Other key areas of focus for the coming year include hunger and food. Hunger is everywhere in our communities, and all our clubs can be successful in developing programs to help address this condition.
DG Doug presided over a Board meeting with MSR Officers and Directors immediately following the Club meeting. We covered Club plans for coming year and had very engaging discussions on a host of topics. Per Doug we are well on our way and should stay the course.
