President's Message 4-2-19
Dear Morning Star Rotary Friends,

Ron Helmuth was admitted into the hospital 2 weeks ago with severe back pain, dizziness, and fatigue. His blood calcium levels were 2x the normal level and his body was in septic shock. After a series of tests he was transferred from Doctors Hospital in Sarasota to Sarasota Memorial Hospital to their Oncology ward. Yes that means cancer has returned. A diagnosis of large b cell lymphoma has been confirmed. It has metastasized in his vertebrae.

The first few days he was completely unresponsive but after 2 rounds of dialysis the calcium levels returned to normal, hes talking, eating, and joking around. The doctors currently believe that Ron will be able to travel back to Bethlehem in the next 7-10 days.  But - ONLY via a medical ambulance flight.

With approval of the board, we have agreed to lead the efforts to raise the funds necessary to bring Ron home! We are accepting contributions through PayPal.  The ultimate goal is to fund the entire trip for Ron, which is $16,350.  This effort will extend not only to our club and Rotary world, but the Blue Mountain Ski Patrol community and Bethlehem at large.  Tell your friends.  Contribute generously.  (Visit www.morningstarrotary.org to donate)

MSR ROAD TRIP UN DAY @ LEHIGH UNIVERSITY

REPLACES REGULAR MORNING MEETING

Lehigh University and the International Labour Organization have partnered to present a discussion of the future of work, as part of the ILO's 100th anniversary celebration.

This one-day conference on "An Equitable and Sustainable Future of Work" features addresses by dignitaries including United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development and Chief Economist, Elliott Harris, and Executive Director of the ILO for North America, Kevin Cassidy. The conference will also present a series of panels focusing on “Effective Lifelong Learning Systems,” “Transformative Agenda for Equality,” and “Improving Global Value Chains for Decent Work.”
RUGBY HOOLIGANS and HOOKERS!
Our March 28 meeting featured Rugby players sharing their amazing experiences on the pitch!
Many thanks to Judy Smullen & Rick Santeeboth hookers... (one of the positions on a rugby team 🏉). Their anecdotes of games past, teams played, friends made, and bars where they were thrown out had the Morning Star Rotarians in stitches. What a fascinating sport, requiring strength, fitness, and agility of the entire team. (Credit - Shawn Deiter/Facebook)
