JAN 18, 2023 JOINT MEETING CELEBRATION
The joint meeting of the Rotary Club of Bethlehem and the Bethlehem Morning Star Rotary Club was held in the Bob Cohen Room at the Bethlehem Area Public Library
Excellent attendance! High energy! Wonderful Rotary fellowship! Delightful meal! Two clubs under one roof. President Hopeton Clennon

Each club was given ten minutes to talk about service projects for the current year lead by the Club Presidents Rod Seifert and Hopeton Clennon. Special thanks to MSR Sheila Seifert, BRC Deb Walter and Lori Knerr for their effective handling of all the logistics to make this meeting a success. We hope this may be the first of many collaborative efforts for our community.

The keynote speaker was Lin Erickson, Executive Director and CEO of the Da Vinci Science Center. She was both informative and engaging. We had lots of questions about the new Da Vinci Center that will be constructed in the heart of Allentown. Lin made an effective appeal for support. In the words of Al, “Lin is an amazing resource for the Lehigh Valley and showed that last night.  She did a great job and was delighted at the large turnout we had.”

2023-24 RI PRESIDENTIAL THEME
Rotary International President-Elect R. Gordon R. McInally revealed the 2023-24 presidential theme, Create Hope in the World, during the International Assembly in Orlando, Florida, USA, 9 January.

PE McInally, a member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, West Lothian, Scotland, asked members to restore hope by helping the world heal from destructive conflicts and create lasting change within ourselves.

McInally told attendees he plans to make mental health a focus and emphasized continuity in advancing the goals of previous leaders, including empowering girls and eradicating polio. Read more about the presidential theme

BETHLEHEM EMERGENCY SHELTERING
Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering - Thank you Rotarians - and more...

Our first night at the shelter this season was Friday 1/6/23.  We served 60 guests a delicious dinner of lasagna, veggies, and brownies, and packed breakfasts to-go bags.

Thanks to Lynn Milet, once again, for ordering and delivering delicious food from Voracious Deli, and to Bill Hunter, Susan Burnett, Janet Kolepp, and Holly Sachdev for serving and Tom Kolepp, our resident pro for dishwashing.

Mike Long and Marianne Aronson stepped up to monitor the showers after a last minute cancellation.

Two more items:  Our next night at the shelter is Friday 2/10/23.  At this time, we still need volunteers for our third night at the shelter Monday 3/20/2023.  Please let me know if you want to join our merry crew.

All the best,
