Communication is key. Include everyone in the tribe!
Best part - meeting all the people and connecting.

Trust the process!
Improvement suggestion - all wanted to make it longer!

AUG 10, 2023 SPEAKER TOM KOLEPP CELTIC CLASSIC 5K RUN / WALK SEP 23, 2023
Race chair, Tom Kolepp provided an update on the 2023 changes to the Celtic Classic 5k Run. This year the format will be significantly different.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Bethlehem Morning Star Rotary Club requests your help to make our 31st Annual Morning Star Rotary Celtic Classic 5K the best ever!

For the first time, our 5K will kick off the “Showing of the Tartan Parade” sponsored by the Celtic Cultural Alliance during Celtic Fest. The race participants will run along the parade route and be cheered on by thousands of parade goers before linking up with the Delaware and Lehigh Canal portion of the course. It’s the first “Downtown to the D&L” race and we would like your help to make it a great success.

Over the past 30+ years, Bethlehem Morning Star Rotary has raised over $150,000 through this running event and included over 6,750 runners. The money has supported local community initiatives that strengthen the Lehigh Valley. Proceeds from this year’s race will help support several community initiatives including Bethlehem Emergency Shelter, the Nurse Family Partnership, Victory House, and various environmental projects.

All sponsors get their name on our runner’s race-day shirt and our race website (please see below). Sponsors who donate $250 or more will also get their company logo on the shirt. This is a great way to promote your business or organization in the community as we typically have over 250 runners!
The race is managed by Rotarians and friends and we are an all-volunteer organization.

The Bethlehem Morning Star Rotary Club Charitable Organization is a 501(c)3 entity. For more information about the race, please visit our website www.MorningStar5k.com. Thank you very much for your support.
Sincerely,
Susan Burnett

AUG 9, 2023 TRAGEDY IN MAUI
image
From Hawai'i Rotary District Governor Mark Merriam:
August 9, 2023

Today has been a tragic day for our Rotarians, families and friends on the Island of Maui. The fires across the island have changed lives forever. Truly devastating. Our sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted.

As people of action, we can take immediate action. As we come together to recover and rebuild, we need to support each other. We need to Create Hope for Maui.

Through our Rotary District 5000 Foundation, a relief fund has been established. Foundation President Dave Hamil and Treasurer Sharon Amano will handle all donations. A committee will be organized shortly to find the greatest needs for distribution of monies. A single fund will be the most helpful over time to provide the most significant benefits.

Please consider donating to this special fund. Hyperlink and QR code are included with this note.

Mahalo to the Rotary Club of Waikiki for collecting monies at their lunch meeting today. These are the first contributions to the fund.
Please also widely share this opportunity to help.

Stay safe, take care and mahalo for creating hope.

JAN 29 - FEB 10 2024 Kenya Grants and Next Trip Updates - Looking for Volunteers
Good Afternoon MSR!
I hope that everyone is enjoying a safe and happy holiday weekend.

I wanted to update everyone about our two Kenyan grants and invite anyone who is interested to consider coming with us on our next Kenyan working adventure!

Our District Grant - The Machakos School Revitalization School Grant has received final approval from RI. We expect to receive District Grant funds in August and the project will move forward that month as there is a school holiday.

Our Maternal and Child Global Grant has completed all the fine print and the funds have been released to the Isiolo Club. That project will be ongoing for many months and we will provide updates.

Both projects are expected to have additional phases, funded by Rotarians and/or other interested partners so we are planning a second, self-funded trip in late January and would love to include anyone who is interested in joining the team.
Here are the tentative details of the trip:
Dates: Jan 28th - returning Feb 10th (landing in US)
Estimated cost: $3000-$3500: which includes double occupancy lodging, most food, all in-country transportation, economy airfare from JFK (which at this point is around $900) to Nairobi and some fun excursions.
Estimated costs are subject to change and do not include: transportation to JFK, your trip to the travel doctor, visa ($45?), passport, souvenir shopping, alcohol etc..., Last trip, covid vaccines were mandatory to enter the country so if you are an anti-vaxer....
Also note, there is not a single bottle of diet coke in the entire country of Kenya, starting when you get on the plane - but all of the food and drink is delicious

Please talk to Susan (me) Wendy, Janet or Holly if you have additional questions as to how life changing this experience will be. Maximum travelers is 8 (I think) so at this point we have room for 5 more.

You can reach me at: burnetts@rcn.com, 484-226-5254

Susan
