OUTREACH FOOD PROJECT SIGN UP FOR MARCH 10
Please sign up for Outreach Food Project on March 10

Outreach Coordinators from each of the Area 2 clubs are fully engaged in signing up Volunteers for the event. Our own Sharon Fontana has reached out to all our members and friends of Morning Star. You can sign up online via the links on the email or go directly to our website www.morningstarrotary.org.

For this year we have raised the bar - we have successfully achieved a matching District Grant for $5,000 allowing us a total of $10,000. We will be able to provide 40,000 meals to help in our communities.
Each Rotary Club receives a proportionate share of meals which they then determine how the meals are distributed throughout their club communities. For Morning Star this is 8,000 meals!
Please  sing up now - we will need many hands - both Rotary and family, friends, colleagues, all ages welcome, to accomplish this project.

This is also an opportunity to invite that potential new member to experience a sample of what Rotary is all about.

This is truly a HANDS-ON PROJECT we always hear Rotarians asking for. The 5 Area 2 Clubs include Bethlehem Downtown, Bethlehem Morning Star, Easton, Nazareth and Saucon/Center Valley.

Thank you.

February is Peace & Conflict Resolution Month
In keeping with the RI theme in February, for this week's meeting we will focus on the work of many around the world in the area of Peace & Conflict Resolution

In advance of the meeting please take a look at our Rotary International website that highlights Promoting Peace. https://www.rotary.org/en/our-causes/promoting-peace

A BUSY THURSDAY MEETING
Our meeting on last Thursday was very informative as well as entertaining. First off, our District Governor Nominee, Herb Klotz, in his capacity as Purple Pinkie Race Coordinator, presented President Cheryl with a Certificate of Appreciation for the efforts of Morning Star in contributing/raising $2,000 for the event. Overall the Race generated over $30,000 for the fight against Polio.  Herb also made an appearance as a very happy Herb the Eagles Underdog celebrating the Super Bowl Victory!

Next we had the pleasure of a Classification Talk by new member Sarabel Conn. Sarabel has a very strong professional background in chemistry. She focused on adhesives in the areas of new product testing and development primarily for commercial applications.

Having retired after sticking to it for 37 years, she has quickly come to be a very engaged Morning Star Rotarian. She has been involved with the Bethlehem Sheltering programs, other soup kitchens, and prayer schools and is an avid knitter. Feel free to bring your knitting along to meetings whenever the spirit moves you.
We are fortunate to have Sarabel who “really wants to make a difference!”

Our next Classification Talk was by Ron Spier, a self-professed “I am not a morning person!” kind of guy who spent most of his life thinking he was of Germanic decent. Catching the bug on ancestral research lead him to find he was only 24% German, and a long litany of numerous ethnic groups concluding Ron to be an admitted “mutt!”

Ron had a varied professional career until some year’s back he went into teaching. Not just anywhere, but at Broughal Middle School in south Bethlehem. He had the challenges of working with a broad diversity of young students most often of very different backgrounds and life experiences. Fortunately for many of those students, Ron absolutely loved it. He found he was often the key male figure in the lives of many of his students. As he stated, “when one of those really challenging students walked up and gave him a hug, saying how much he missed him over the summer I knew I found my calling".

We are happy to welcome Ron to Morning Star, but be aware, your best chance for fellowship will be at First Thursdays!

CAMP NEIDIG STUDENT REFERRALS
Student referrals for Camp Neidig WANTED!!!

As many of our members already know, each year our club sponsors four high school juniors to participate in the four day leadership development program which is our district's Camp Neidig event.  Rotary District 7430 welcomes you to Camp Neidig, celebrating its 69th year of inspiring tomorrow's leaders in 2018! Preparations are under way for Camp Neidig 2018. Before starting this year's recruitment process in our Bethlehem area high schools, we would like to extend this sponsorship opportunity to interested sons and daughters of our club members.

Camp Neidig is a well-established youth development program dating back to 1950, and annually serves approximately 150 students from 80 high schools in our southeastern Pennsylvania region of district 7430.  The program begins on Friday, June 15, and concludes on Monday, June 18.

For more information, please visit www.campneidig.com or feel free to contact Rick Morrissey at rpmorrissey16@yahoo.com for a direct contact for students or parents with questions in reference to applying for Camp Neidig. Tour our site to see what makes this camp one of the best leadership experiences for high school students in Eastern Pennsylvania!
