RUNNERS TAKE YOUR MARKS! CELEBRATE THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY RUN !!!

After many months of preparation Race Director, Wayne Achey and the MSR Race Committee are ready to hit the trails.  The race this year again will feature professional timing and scoring facilities. As President Searfoss raises the cry "All Hands On Deck" it is time for ALL of us to Be a Gift to Our Community and make this historic event a resounding success.  With registrations approaching record levels, an outstanding course and the state of the art timing and scoring equipment, we really need course marshals and supporting personnel! We ask you to help and to bring family, friends and students (community service credit!) if possible on Saturday.

Thanks, and hope to see you Saturday!

Morning Star Club activities have reached a fever pitch!

The 25th Anniversary Race will be this weekend (see above) with the need for all hands on deck.  A team of MSR Rotarians will work a ticket booth at Celtic Classic later that day to promote our club and what Rotary is all about.  An MSR fellowship event follows on September 27th at Braden Airpark where Equi~Librium will host its first Lehigh Valley Polo event.

October will have, in addition to the normal club activities, the 9th Annual Sipple Lecture at Moravian College followed by fellowship at the Brick. The new Membership Committee is planning an evening social to spread the good word of MSR. Nearer the end of the month is Rotary Foundation and Grant Training in Blue Bell.  This is a great opportunity for Rotarians to learn more about this very important part of Rotary.

Just to keep things interesting we will be busily preparing for the Salute The Troops Concert on November 8.

Your participation and enthusiasm is needed and encouraged to make these events successful and help build the club.

The Nominating Committee will begin preparations for identifying candidates for the Board of Directors and Officers.  Anyone wishing to step up to a leadership role in helping the Club progress, please contact any committee member. You will enrich the club and your own experiences as a Rotarian.  Besides, we have FUN!

Please join us Thursday when Loretta Ottinger will make an interesting presentation on “Why Solar NOW?”

Fiber is the indigestible portion of food derived from plants.  There are two main components:

Soluble fiber dissolves in water readily fermented in the colon into gases and byproducts and can be prebiotic and viscous.
Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water and provides bulk in the colon to sweep the intestines clean.

Dietary bulk fibers absorb water easing defecation.  Prebiotic means the substance induces growth or activity of micro organisms including good bacteria and fungi that aid digestion. Probiotics include external dietary supplements of live bacteria and yeasts taken to aid the digestive system.

The daily requirement of dietary fiber is 21-25 grams for women and 30-38 grams for men.  The benefits of daily dietary fiber intake reduces the risk of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.  How do you know if you have taken in adequate dietary fiber?  When your bowel movements float rather than sink in the toilet bowl!  Check it out.

A few of the foods high in fiber include raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, quinoa, bulgur, whole wheat spaghetti, barley, bran flakes, oatmeal, wild/brown rice, rye or multigrain breads, pears and apples with the skin, split peas, lentils, black and white beans, lIma beans, sunflower seeds, almonds, pistachio nuts, pecans, collards, spinach, mustard greens, turnips, brussel sprouts, broccoli, acorn squash, and artichokes.

Eat more plants and less animal meats.
