The Honorable Lamont G. McClure, Jr. NORTHAMPTON COUNTY EXECUTIVE As the County Executive, Mr. McClure’s job is very diverse. The County Executive is responsible for overseeing county operations that serve the municipalities of Northampton County.
Under the Home Rule Charter, previously enacted, the County Executive oversees the departments of Administration, Community and Economic Development, Corrections, Court Services, Fiscal Affairs, Human Resources, Human Services and Public Works, in addition to the offices of Coroner, Public Defender, Sheriff and Solicitor. Among the myriad of topics covered were: Northampton County Nursing Home is not only rare, but the largest in Pennsylvania CV-19 People of NC recognized early on they were in this together and masked, distanced, handwashing, etc. for protection of everyone from the beginning. Collaborated for drivethrough free testing LVH and later vaccinations. NC provided over $11 million in grants to support over 800 small businesses - the true lifeblood of the community. Increased commitment to supporting police and first responders plus $5 million in grants to non-profits. As we are developing our Game of Rent project to help the community, it was very timely for Lamont to share the recent Northampton Housing study recently completed. Summary of Northampton County Housing Issues ▪ Rapidly increasing home prices, especially in walkable neighborhoods ▪ Severe shortage of rental housing, especially for the low-wage workforce (e.g. warehouses, casino) ▪ Growing number of low-income seniors with housing challenges ▪ Aging homes in need of repair, including very large homes that have limited market demand ▪ Disproportionately low homeownership rates for Black and Latino families, even when accounting for incomes ▪ Housing needs in rural areas, including rental housing, mobile home repair, and rural homelessness We thank Mr. McClure for his very thorough and professional presentation.
