TO HONOR ALL WHO SERVE
Every waving flag, hand covered heart, and deeply felt prayer, asking God to Bless America, is a declaration of thanks to all those who have served.

Veterans have shown, by example, what it truly means to belong to the land of the free and the home of the brave!
                                                                                                                                  President John Oesmann

UPDATE THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
November is Rotary Foundation Month. Diane Donaher, District 7430 Area 2 Foundation Coordinator, presented an overview of the Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.

Diane Donaher gave a great overview of The Rotary Foundation(TRF)-November's Rotary area of focus. She outlined the history of TRF starting out with a $26.50 endowment by Arch Klumph in 1917 which set in motion a powerful force that has transformed millions of lives around the globe. TRF is not for profit supported by our voluntary contributions which turns those gifts into service projects throughout the world. TRF makes judicious use of the gifts with 100% financial performance metrics and has continuously received the highest-four star rating-from Charity Navigator.

The Rotary Foundation has had 6 areas of focus:

1. Building Peace & Conflict Resolution
2. Disease Prevention & Treatment
3. Maternal & Child Health
4. Community & Economic Development
5. Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
6. Basic Education & Literacy
And a new area of focus:
7. Supporting the Environment!

There are three funds: 1. Annual Fund (primary) 2. Endowment Fund 3. Polio Plus. The efforts of TRF can be found from Bethlehem to Mumbai, India and beyond. Individual Rotarian Recognition can start as a sustaining member at $100 each year. A Paul Harris Fellow is achieved at $1000, and multiple Paul Harris Fellows up to level 9. Please consider making your yearly contribution now or starting on the path as a sustaining member.

Please contact Tom Hartzell or President John with questions or requests for more information. You can make your contribution directly to RI online or you can send your contribution to Tom before December 15, 2020 for a 2020 tax deduction.

HOLIDAY HOPE CHESTS

During the month of November, the Rotary Club of Bethlehem Morning Star will bring "happiness in a shoebox" to many less fortunate children here in the Lehigh Valley.
Holiday Hope Chest is a program run through the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley. In 2019, they collected over 9,000 wrapped shoeboxes donated by area businesses, clubs and churches. Each wrapped box is filled with gifts that go to children served by one of over 40 local non-profits and schools.
We are looking for volunteers for the following positions:
  • Shoebox donors
  • Gift wrap donors
  • Shoebox wrappers
  • Gift donors
  • All of the above
  • Driver to pick up shoeboxes from Rotarians
MSR has pledged to give 45 filled and wrapped boxes. If we meet this goal quickly, we can ALWAYS donate more!
  1. SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER BY FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20.
  2. Collect and wrap empty shoeboxes (no boot boxes). HOW TO WRAP A SHOEBOX WITH ATTACHED LID
  3. Purchase age-appropriate items for your boxes (please no food or candy). Value of gifts approximately $25 per box. GIFT SUGGESTIONS BY AGE
  4. Place items into your wrapped shoeboxes.
  5. HOLIDAY HOPE CHEST GIFT TAG - Print, cut, fill out the gift tag, and affix one to the short side of the Holiday Hope Chest. Please make sure the tags you print out match what you have indicated on your form.
  6. A Rotary volunteer will pick up your wrapped and filled Holiday Hope Chest on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1 BETWEEN 10AM-2PM.
