Stories
Reflections
Despite the death, suffering, fear and anxiety that have struck our country and our world, we will still gather in our own ways to celebrate Passover, Easter, the start of Spring.

These photos are from Ann Wright in Hermanus, South Africa. Her club hosted several members of our District last September when we were there for the Rotary Friendship Exchange.  Outstanding photos and some uplifting thoughts from a fellow Rotarian - Rotary truly Connects the World!

"I've survived the first week of our national lockdown! I miss seeing the sea, walks on the beach and the cliff path and coffee catch ups with friends. Definitely missing social interaction. My thoughts and prayers are with all those who are suffering enormous hardships right now."

Help The Allentown Rescue Mission
This plea for help is from Rosaria Stoops, Development Manager of the Allentown Rescue Mission - just click on the link and use your Amazon account to help buy supplies for the Mission!

Check out this Idea List on Amazon:

It’s hard right now with the food crisis starting to take effect to find available foods. So I did what I could. The more emergency supplies we need like hand sanitizer, masks, cleaning products are not even available on Amazon so I could not add at all.

Thanks for all the help!

Helping Lehigh Valley Non-Profits
How are Lehigh Valley non-profits coping with the pandemic - they're struggling!  Here's a recent WFMZ video interview with several local non-profits, including Community Bike Works, a past recipient of District 7430 and Allentown Rotary grants.

It is sad and maddening that the Small Biz Loan process is so slow & frustrating. Good news is that The Lehigh Valley Community Foundation is matching up to $50,000 in donations," Please consider donating - help Lehigh Valley non-profits or the non-profits where you live! #FightCovid19

Helping Protect our First Responders
Across America and around the world, Rotarians are working around the clock as doctors, nurses, first responders, truck drivers, food bank volunteers, blood donors, etc to help Fight Covid-19. Here is a contribution from a company owned & operated by Allentown Rotarian, Rolf Schlake.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4v_KUt9X6E

Applied Separations manufactures DNA clinical kits in ultra-clean cleanrooms. Instead of routinely disposing of them, the company heats its used clean room gowns in company ovens to 230oF for 90 minutes destroying coronavirus, and then immediately putting them in clean plastic bags. Although not sterile, but these scarce and much-needed products are then offered free to first responders and others, protecting both themselves and those they serve. Private message us for more info. #FightCovid19
Union Terrace Update
Rosaria Stoops and I spoke with Kelly O’Sada from Union Terrace (UT) last week.  Since UT is closed we temporarily stopped the food delivery to them.

Since Raub was the closest school to UT that was giving out food we asked if our food donation could be sent to them. Unfortunately, that idea would be too difficult for the Raub staff.  However, Communities in Schools is talking about supporting an organization out of the UT school building using UT’s community partner’s collaboratively.  It is still a work in progress that is being discussed and reviewed, but ARC will do whatever we can to help the children of Union Terrace and their families.
Corona Virus Prayer
This is the invocation that Lou Bottitta gave at last week's meeting.  Several members asked for copies of it, so here it is.  The prayer was written by the priests at Lou's high school alma mater in NJ.  Click on the headline above to enlarge the image and make it more readable.

Zoom Schedule
Members should check the schedule to the right and their emails this coming week for details on Zoom Committee meeting, our Zoom Happy Hour at 5pm Wednesday and next Friday's  meeting.  These meetings are password protected and you will pass through a "Waiting Room" before being connected to the actual meeting.  We are taking these measures to protect our members from "hackers" who have been hi-jacking some on-line meetings around the world.  Protect yourself and your fellow Rotarians - do not share your invites with anyone and DO NOT share them on any social media.
Above is a screen shot from last Wednesday's Fellowship Hour/Social Hour using the Zoom conferencing software.  We had about 12 on the call, including guests from Oregon!  Glen and Cathy Martz organized our Rotary Friendship Exchange to Eugene, Oregon and one of our stops was the King Estate Winery.  On Zoom some of us revisited the winery and others learned about it as we enjoyed a virtual tour of the winery and lots of good conversation.

Join us next Wednesday when Deb Fries-Jackson will share her experiences at the Gloria Ferrer Winery in Sonoma, CA - their wines are even available in PA LCB stores, when they re-open!
