Barb's Message
Did you know that DeSales University is joining forces with Dr. Kamran Afshar, a leading local economist, on a groundbreaking new data analytics center that will put students at the forefront of research and consulting.  The Kamran Afshar Data Analytics Center at DeSales University  (KADAC) will open in January 2018 in the Gambet Center for Business and Healthcare.  I suspect this will be one of the topics covered this Friday when Dr. Afshar presents to our noon Rotary lunch at Bell Hall - I'm sure that you'll come away from his talk with many new insight into the local and national economy,  For more on Kamran and his consulting firm, click this link,
Scheduling Reminder
We will be meeting every Friday this month and throughout 2018.  The 3rd Thursday of each month will be set aside for new member mixers, meet and greets, hosted at various locations.  Click on the link below for more of my message.

ARC New Member Options; BadgeBoard News
The Board has approved two new membership policies:
New members under the age of 40 will continue to be afforded free dues for the current Rotary year.  Until the age of 40, the member's dues for subsequent years will be approximately $120 (to increase in relation to the amount that covers Rotary International and District assessments).
Spouses of current members may join the Club for annual dues of approximately $120 (that amount that covers RI and District assessments.)
Pick up your new Rotary business "invitation" cards. Use them to invite prospective members to free Friday lunch at Bell Hall.
Some members have reported problems receiving the weekly Smile emails.  Please take a moment to review/update your email preferences so you receive the Smile in the right inbox every week.  Only one email ID can be specified as primary and used for all email communications generated through Club Runner.
Allentown Library - Reference Library USA
Remember the 1970’s? Platform shoes, really wide ties and “I am not a crook?” Well another thing you might remember when you were doing research of any kind there were two ways. You could go to the library and look it up or you could call the library and have them look it up. In a book. How 20th century.
But then along came the internet. At its meeting on January 4 the Allentown Rotary Club heard from Kelly Perise an assistant director of the Allentown Public Library on the new and interesting uses the library is making of this tool and how they are using it to aid the public. With her was Library Director Renee Haines.
referenceUSA – A division of Infogroup
Their chief topic was on the uses of Reference USA , a free online resource to look up information on individuals and businesses. By going to the library’s home page “”  it is possible to link to Reference USA. Rotary members learned how to do a business search, address, phone numbers and executive names pop up with just a click of a button. Perise also explained how to do an advance search.
In fact members learned a-lot.  Thank you Allentown Public Library.  For a list of the databases available through Reference USA and other valuable information about the service, use any of the following links:
