Best wishes for a safe and happy Labor Day weekend and a reminder that there's no meeting this Friday because of the holiday.

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month for Rotary Clubs around the world - Rotary International supports activities and training to improve education for all children and literacy for children and adults and it has long been a special focus of our club to support the Allentown School District (see post below).  Did you know that according to some statistics, illiteracy is higher than 20% in some areas of the world?

The Rotary Foundation enables Rotarians to ensure that all people have sustainable access to basic education and literacy by:

1. Involving the community to support programs that strengthen the capacity of communities to provide basic education and literacy to all;
2. Increasing adult literacy in communities;
3. Working to reduce gender disparity in education;
4. Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to basic education and literacy.

The following graphic really sums it up!

Also, a big shout out to those club members who made Shelter Box contributions.  With the Club's matching dollars, we contributed $2K, enough to pay for 2 Shelter Boxes!

 Lastly, we are looking forward to District Governor Bob Hobaugh's virtual visit to our club on September 17.  Let's roll out the red carpet and have a strong turnout for this meeting.
