See the Moving Picture - New Owners of Shankweiler's Drive-In (ZOOM Meeting)
Feb 10, 2023 12:00 PM
Matthew McClanahan - Matt loves going to the movies, but his roots in the theater industry really took hold in late summer of 2014, when he partnered with The Mahoning Drive-In Theater in Lehighton, Pennsylvania. The 70 year old theater was facing closure due to staggering running costs, low attendance, and the inability to afford digital conversion. Matt and his partners developed a new model, turning the Mahoning Drive-In Theater into the premiere retro drive-in, and propelling the theater to its now world-famous status. For five years, Matt was the drive-in's workhorse, serving as both partner and head operations manager. In the summer of 2016, Matt developed and built an affordable, versatile digital projection system that allowed the Mahoning Drive-In Theater to expand its programming beyond the limitations of 35mm. Matt is most notable for creating and conceptualizing ‘Drive-In VHS Fest’, one of The Mahoning’s most unique and successful annual events. Matt’s home-brewed projection setup, which is featured in the documentary ‘At The Drive-In’, is now on the road and showcased at venues across eastern PA. Matt continues to innovate and evolve new events and partnerships. He combines his fascination and love of vintage cinema with a borderline obsessive DIY spirit to craft TMPC, a truly unique movie going experience. Lauren McChesney - Lauren met Matt in 2018, when she attended a movie at the Mahoning Drive-In Theater. She had never been to a drive-in movie theater before. Matt took her ticket at the gate. She fell in love with watching movies outdoors, and then she fell in love with Matt. Together, they have traveled around the country visiting drive-in movie theaters and unique cinematic displays. Lauren spent the majority of her adult life as a medical social worker and healthcare marketer. TMPC's success coincided with her gradual burnout in the healthcare field. She found herself gravitating more toward the cinema business, increasingly helping with strategy and logistics behind-the-scenes. In May 2022, Lauren took a leap out of healthcare and joined TMPC full time to oversee the company's marketing and business development activities. In addition to her work with TMPC, Lauren is also a freelance marketing consultant. She loves to read, garden, and thrift shop.

A two-time League Executive of the Year, Landes was introduced as the first General Manager in IronPigs history on October 4, 2006, after spending the previous five years as General Manager of the Hagerstown Suns. Previous to that, Landes was the General Manager in Daytona Beach, FL. During his tenure with both teams, average attendance increased each year. Landes has also directed franchises in Erie, Pa., and Staten Island, N.Y., and has worked within Minor League Baseball in Akron, Ohio (1996-2000), and Toledo, Ohio (1994-1995). Under his direction, Kurt's teams have received continual national praise, awards and media attention including ESPN’s “Promotion of the Year” Funeral Giveaway and then again later for a Urinal Video Gaming promotion. The 2014 "Smell the Change" bacon-themed campaign also landed numerous industry and marketing honors as well as the #WeWantLebron viral campaign in 2018. Landes' promotions have routinely been featured by the national media. Kurt, once named one of SportsBusiness Journal’s “Rising Stars,” is credited with being the first in Minor League Baseball to bring the popular “Education Days” (school themed morning games), on-field Home Run Derby hospitality seating and even branded food identities to the baseball industry. Originally from Ohio, Landes graduated as the sole recipient of the distinguished Outstanding Senior Award from Bowling Green State University. He is also a member of the Northwestern (Ohio) High School Alumni Hall of Fame. The 2023 season is his 30th in Minor League Baseball. |

Apr 21, 2023 12:00 PM
While serving six years in the United States Army Reserves, GEMM Founder K. Scott Sine PE, MBA (Scott) earned a Penn State Architectural Engineering BAE degree. Scott embarked as Design Engineer at JDB Engineering quickly elevating to Department Head at 28 years old, and responsible for eight seasoned engineers. In 2000, Scott became Chief Engineer of one of the nation's leading Design / Build firms, H.T. Lyons (HTL). Scott established a consulting-like in-house engineer group that took on challenging projects with turn-key responsibility. Maintaining sole Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) and sprinkler engineering responsibility at Grand Plaza, Scott and his team delivered one of the first of two LEED Gold buildings in the country (pre-platinum rating). The Grand Plaza not only garnered the top LEED rating available at the time, it did so utilizing a fiscally responsible REIT budget in an era where like buildings had extensive budgets. The design achieved 24 first-of-its-kind engineering feats and garnished national recognition from ASHRAE and HPAC magazine. Throughout Scott's H.T Lyons tenure, he and his team remained one of the leading providers of Pennsylvania Registered LEED and Energy Star designs. As HTL's Director of Energy & Engineering Services from 2007 – 2012, Scott was afforded an outward-focused position responsible for technically driven project development, and dealing directly with clients. Scott was tasked with masterplanning projects, and not just the technical aspects. Scott was point of contact for clients in the data center, heavy industrial, commercial office, government, and many other arenas. Scott advanced HTL’s energy services division to the point of receiving Services Division Profit and Loss responsibility from 2012 to 2015. During the transition years to ENGIE MEP, Scott became more national-focused. Scott's responsibilities included U.S. business development of complex energy saving, generation and resilience, with creative funding solutions. Scott pioneered many in-house customized designs for boilers, cogeneration, and AHUs, using an "on-a-skid / packaged' mentality. This unique and streamlined approach minimized unit delivery challenges, project turnaround time, occupant inconvenience, installation, and overall cost. The COVID shutdown gave Scott a chance to take this on-the-job cutting-edge education to the industry. GEMM’s innovative solution delivers technical and financial strategies into a single masterplan. This approach is customized for sound business, action and a better tomorrow. Chair: Ken Kirshner

Sip & Play - Restaurants around the Lehigh Valley (@ Red Ticket Café)
May 12, 2023 12:00 PM
Armando Garcia: Armando had worked in the medical field for almost 20 years. In the emergency room he would get car collisions that did not end well for many families. The disheartening part was seeing and hearing their loved ones after tragedy. When Armando left St. Lukes in 2018, he wanted to do something to help the community. This is how the idea for Sip & Play Transportation was born. Sip & Play Transportation started with humble beginnings back in 2018. We launched in the spring of 2019 with one 14 passenger vehicle. With hard work and determination brought steady growth. Today we boast a number of 14 passengers as well as 25 passenger vehicles for larger groups. This could not have been accomplished if it were not for the community seeing our worth and need. Simply put, our mission is to grow the organization while helping the greater community. Every year Sip and Play Transportation gives back to it’s community. We offer tours for non-profits to auction off. We devote time, energy and capital to helping families and charitable agencies in need all over the Lehigh Valley and Poconos. Every year we also work with such incredible partners as Camp Papillion and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of Lehigh Valley (PCFLV) to provide Thanksgiving meals for underprivileged families.
