Red Cross
Jan 18, 2019 12:00 PM
Topic will be an overview of Red Cross services, focusing primarily on local and national disaster responses, and how our local staff and volunteers provide assistance here and on the larger disasters across the country. The Lehigh Valley-Bucks Chapter of the American Red Cross provides critical disaster preparedness, response, and recovery services to the residents of our three counties, while also supporting our military through Services to the Armed Forces programs, and helping to insure a steady supply of safe blood products to our region’s health providers. Over 90% of the Red Cross workforce are volunteers, with over 700 volunteers delivering our mission each day in Lehigh, Northampton, and Bucks Counties. Peter Brown joined the American Red Cross staff in 2013 after a long career in commercial banking, working for a number of local banks across Eastern Pennsylvania. He served as a Red Cross volunteer and Chapter Board Member for over 10 years before joining the staff. In his role as Executive Director, Brown oversees delivery of the Red Cross mission to the almost 1.3 million residents of Lehigh, Northampton, and Bucks Counties. In the past two years, Brown has deployed as a volunteer to support Red Cross relief efforts in Texas, US Virgin Islands, and North Carolina. Peter and his wife Laura have lived in Zionsville since 1997, raising three children in the Lehigh Valley. Chair: Nan Yarrish Invocator: Theresa Podguski |

Former Rotary Peace Scholar's Experience
Feb 08, 2019 12:00 PM
An American graduate student wanted to study the Bible and its interpretation in the land where it was born. Rotary made it possible with a scholarship. Even more than the biblical studies, the student came back with insight into interfaith relations and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Thirty-five years later, he is still doing "service above self" on those fronts. In Allentown. Come hear about Rotary's role in making a career. Chair: Marci Schick Invocator: Nan Yarrish |

PLEASE JOIN US THIS FRIDAY AS ALLENTOWN SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT THOMAS PARKER SHARES WITH US SOME OF HIS LIFE STORY AND GOALS. HERE'S AN EXCERPT FROM HIS LINKEDIN BIO: "More important than what I do is why I do it. My purpose in life is to improve the lives of those who may not have had the opportunities I was afforded. In order to heal a place that’s been broken, it not only requires skill, knowledge, and experience, but it requires empathy, understanding, and humility. Education is the vehicle in which I express my purpose and I look forward to helping young people, families, and communities reach their fullest potential wherever my career takes me."
