AUGUST NEWSLETTER
A Message from President Greg Kern

Have you figured out how you will “Do Rotary Different”?
I’m no different than you.  Throughout the year I will share my faults.  Items that I felt were sufficient contributions to the club and now realize that I need to “Do Rotary Different”.
This month…Fundraising.
I’d like to think that I do my part financially to help with our fundraising efforts.  Our major fundraiser is our golf outing.  Club members were polled a few years ago and it was indicated that most prefer to contribute to 1 major fundraiser rather than trying to hold multiple smaller fundraisers.  All good, I’m in the same boat.  Historically our goal was to raise $20k from our major fundraising event…the golf outing.
My brain works like this…52 members on our roster with a goal of raising $20k.  Each member should be able to come up with $384 (through their business, reaching out to potential donors, through gifts for auction items, putting together a 4 some, etc) to make this work.
I’ll say that 75% of our members are active and engaged (I think I’m being generous in this figure).  That brings our number of active and engaged down to 39 which equates to $513 per member to make a goal of $20k.
I’ve been fortunate to be affiliated with a business that wants to support Rotary.  Our business can fund a $1k sponsorship.  Great, I’ve covered my $513 per member and then some.  But, this is where I now feel I’m coming up short…I need to “Do Rotary Different”.  We have members that don’t have the advantage of their business paying dues let alone contribute to a fund raiser.
Here is my goal to “Do Rotary Different” on the Fundraising side.   My wife recently purchased a vehicle from Lehman Volvo.  I know we have other members that have purchased vehicles from them.  I’d like to approach Lehman and see if we can get something to support our mission & goals.  Perhaps we can encourage someone from their organization to join the club??  Another “Do Rotary Different” perspective for a future newsletter.
My challenge to everyone reading this, if you are able to contribute as a sponsor…thank you!  Would you be willing to bring someone else in as a sponsor, golf foursome, or offer something for our raffle?.  If you can’t support as a sponsor, all good.  Would you be willing to ask someone to be a sponsor, get a foursome to participate, or contribute an auction gift item?  It could be your “Do Rotary Different” event!
Thank you for everything you do for our club!
Greg

Don’t miss out on attending the best golf tournament in town!

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th!!
Did you save the date yet?
What’s that you say??  You don’t golf?
Well funny thing, neither do we! But that doesn’t mean you can’t attend our
one and only club fundraiser!!

There are lots of ways to get involved this year and we need everyone to help to be a big success.
First of all, join us!  We have an entire day of fun and if you only want to stop by for a breakfast sandwich or for the buffet at the end, we can certainly get you a price to just attend, eat and see the beginning/end of the event.
Or if you feel like being a friendly face, we would love your help by greeting the golfers and twisting their arms to empty their wallets at our registration area.
Are you actually busy on that Tuesday, like legit scheduled to do something important?  Fine, we understand.  But we can use help BEFORE the event.
  • Donate a NEW ITEM or a GIFT CARD to help us plump up our raffles
  • Ask a friend, neighbor, business colleague, relative, mailman, fellow church attendee, favorite waitress, etc. if they golf – then give them our golf brochure!
  • Know someone who owns a business?  Know someone who works for a business?  Know anyone who walks into a business?  Maybe you can give them a brochure and ask them if they would consider sponsoring.  Did you know our sponsorships come with advertising opportunities??  It is a great way to promote a business 😊
  • Donate 100-120 of a promo item for our welcome bags
  • Share this info on social media and with everyone you know!
Remember – a huge part of our Rotary Club is giving.  The philanthropic part of our club is being funded by this event and we need everyone’s help to make it a success.  If you can’t help in any of these ways, feel free to reach out to us to tell us how you can help.  Thanks so much!
