Let’s continue to “Do Rotary Different”!

 

I was first asked to join Rotary at the age of 24.  My first thought was “why would I want to join a group of stuffy old men who have nothing better to do than to get together for breakfast”.  After declining about 10 times I finally broke down and said I’d go to a meeting just to see what it was like.
I was totally blown away.  Without going into great detail, the first meeting included an attractive young woman wearing boxer shorts with a number of Shiloh Nurseries logos all over them.  There was a contest to see who could guess the number of logos on those shorts.  After that, I decided it was worthwhile to come back for another meeting!
The reality is that I continued to go to meetings because I enjoyed the weekly programs, the members and the comradery.  This group was not a bunch of stuffy old men…there were females (yes the attractive young woman was a member) & younger, enthusiastic, energetic people that wanted to get things done.
Why did you join Rotary?  Did it take you a number of asks before you said yes?  Are you glad that person asked you to join?  Consider asking someone to join us one week.  I can’t guarantee it will be as entertaining as my first meeting, but the prospective member will be exposed to a great program, comradery & a good mix of people that want to get things done!
