Rotary International has a bold vision to grow Rotary to 1.25 million members by July 1, 2030, in celebration of the organizations 125th anniversary.

At first glance, this feels ambitious.  But when broken down, it becomes both practical and achievable.  That's about a 2% annual growth over the next 5 years.  Growth brings new energy, diverse perspectives, and expanded capacity.  Each new member strengthens not just the club but the entire Rotary network.  For many clubs 2% annual growth is realistic and necessary.  

The facts:

Growth is a Team effort- it's not the responsibility of one person.  Lasting growth happens when club members and leaders work together.

A New Approach to Welcoming Members - Each year many people express interest in joining Rotary, however only about 10% actually result in membership.  How can we address this gap and shift to creating a welcoming and responsive experience?

Recognize and reinforcing growth - Growth deserves recognition as well as the generosity celebrated with Foundation giving.  Acknowledge the efforts of those that are participating.

The Club Experience Defines Everything - People remain in Rotary because of how it makes them feel-connected, valued, and inspired.  Every club develops its own culture through its leadership, relationships, and traditions.  That culture shapes the experience for every member and guest who walks through the door.  Clubs that succeed in growing and retaining members tend to be intentional about that experience.  The meetings are engaging and worthwhile, service is meaningful, and opportunities for genuine connection and belonging make the member feel accepted.  And they foster trust in leadership.

This celebration is important because it honors bacon’s rich history and its place in our culinary traditions. Bacon isn’t just a food item; it’s a cultural icon.  Bacon itself has a long history, dating back to ancient times.  The Chinese began salting pork bellies as early as 1500 BCE, which is considered the earliest form of bacon.  The Romans also enjoyed a type of bacon called “petaso”, which they prepared with boiling and seasoning.  In the United States, bacon's popularity soared in the 1920's when pre-sliced, packaged bacon became available, making it a household staple.  This innovation was largely thanks to Oscar Mayer, who patented the first packaged sliced bacon, revolutionizing it's availability and convenience.

So add a little extra bacon to your meal on this day to celebrate.
