President Kris's message

Did You Know!

Our club was founded in October of 1987 with 20 members.  Our charter Members are Charles Stein, III, Robert Yost, Robert Strickler, Joanne Bankos, Cliff Billet, John Schmitt, Careon Gohn and James Walters.  As you know, Charlie, Joanne, John and Jim remain as current members.  In the beginning, our club met at Rutter’s Restaurant on the corner of Whiteford and Mt. Zion roads until that building was sold and demolished.  First National Bank is now located on that corner.

We’ve met at Heritage Hills since then, always on a Tuesday morning at 7:30am.

Women were first admitted to Rotary as an organization in 1985.  York-East was started to allow females to join a local Rotary club.  Back then, you had to be invited to join a Rotary club AND you had to own your own business!  A member’s career choice was their classification, banker, lawyer, Indian chief and each classification was limited to no more than 2 members per club per classification.  I think you can safely say we’ve come a long way, baby!

What remains the same over the years is our motto “Service Above Self”. We still support Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen and Road Cleanup and have added quite a few other non-profits.  We still support international efforts with Pints for Polio and Mission Trips led by Connie Spark.  We also continue our support to local nonprofits with funds raised by our club’s fundraising activities.  We remain committed to improve the quality of life within our community.

August is National Peach Month!       -----------------------------------
Did you ever try
grilling peaches or putting a
peach sauce on your chicken?
Try this easy recipe!

"Grilled chicken with spicy peach sauce"
4 boneless or bone in chicken breasts or thighs
1 cups fresh peach preserves or jam
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Finely chopped garlic or garlic powder

Salt & Pepper
4 ripe peaches cut in half
Olive oil for brushing

Combine and mix well:  Peach preserves, olive oil, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard.  Add a dash of garlic, salt and pepper.
(for spicy kick add chopped jalapeno!)

Preheat grill.
Brush chicken with olive oil and grill skin side down 7-8 minutes.
Turn over and continue 6-8 additional minutes.
(add time for bone in chicken)
Brush both sides with peach glaze and continue cooking until done. Approx. 5-6 minutes.

Place peach halves cut side down on grill for 2 minutes.
Turn over and brush with peach glaze and grill for additional 4 minutes or until peaches are soft.
            Enjoy!
