Ron Guss passed away Thursday, Feb., 25 2021, while vacationing at his favorite spot- Myrtle Beach. S.C. He fought the effects of diabetes for many years. Ron had several possible kidney transplants over the final decade of his life. Unfortunately, none were a perfect match. Ron never complained, rather he often remarked how fortunate he was to live in a miraculous time when organ transplants were a possibility.

Ron attended Central Dauphin East H.S. and Kutztown University. He worked most of his life for various banks in the greater Harrisburg Area as a Compliance Officer. His career spanned 48 years beginning with Harris Savings, and he retired from Members 1st in October of 2020.

Ron's Rotary Service spanned 30 years. He served as our club president for the year 2020-2021, received the Community Service Award in 2003, and served on the club's Board and District 7390 Board. His service on the Youth Exchange committee was invaluable. He chaired the committee, served as both inbound and outbound counselor, plus hosted many young men who kept in touch for years. He was the "Coffee Brewmaster" for the pancake breakfast, served on the scholarship and Four-Way Test Essay Contest committees. He also volunteered for: Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Food Bank, Homeless Shelters, Yocumtown Yellow Journal, Bowling for Kids, and was a 30 year member of the Harrisburg Gourmet Club. Though Ron had no children, he had several nieces and nephews that he treated like his grandchildren-- plus all the Youth Exchange kids he helped along the way.
May Ron Guss live in blessed memory.

Rotary Meeting Minutes August 9, 2021
Submitted by Karen Good

Pre-meeting music was played for us by Norma Swain.
Meeting started at 12:06 PM when President Matt Staub rang the bell.
We were led in an invocation by Carolyn Dumeresq, and in singing ‘America the Beautiful’ by Karen Paris.

President Matt spoke of the passing of Bob Hostetter, and announced that there will be a memorial service for him on August 28th. More information can be found on Parthemore Funeral home’s website.
Norma played ‘Nearer my God to Thee’, which was a song that Bob requested to be played at his passing. Connie Siegel shared a lovely eulogy about Bob, and some of his memories from the time he knew him.

Frank Frailey announced guests and visiting Rotarians.
New member Vishnu Patel gave his ‘meet the member’ speech, and it was enjoyed by all.
Matt reminded us all to register for upcoming Rotary meetings.
Next, Ellen Brown introduced our guest speaker for the day, Debra McClain.
Debra shared stories of the history of the clinic, what the clinic is doing and the types of people they serve, and their current vision for the future.

Meeting adjourned at 12:55 PM
