Wendell Hoover receives Robert D. Hanson award for Excellence
Congratulations Wendell Hoover, 2022 Recipient of the Robert D. Hanson Award of Rotary Excellence
President Matt Staub and Past District Governor Janice Black present the 2022 Hanson Award to Wendell Hoover
Past District Governor and Past President Janice Black spoke to the Club about the life and impact of Past President Robert Hanson. The annual Hanson Award was presented to Rotarian Wendell Hoover.
Black noted, “Bob Hanson loved Rotary; he said it was his favorite organization. Bob wanted people in Rotary to grow into leadership and in their creative thinking and planning for Rotary. He started the Hanson lunch, which is an opportunity for those in leadership in the Rotary Club of Harrisburg to gather over a meal and share thoughts and ideas. Bob Hanson also agreed to the Hanson award, which is given to an outstanding Club member annually.
Black presented a clock to Wendell, and he also will be given a stipend to use towards a trip to a Rotary International Conference.
Wendell Hoover thanked Rotarians, his personal assistant, and his coworkers who were present at the meeting. He thanked his parents, and his wife and children, who were present in the meeting. Wendell said, “his parents modeled business ownership to him, as well as the importance of doing things behind the scenes.”  He said he enjoys Rotary, because he is always greeted by positive, friendly people.
Wendell has been actively engaged in the Club’s dictionary project, Youth Exchange, yearly science award, and the Central Penn Food Bank projects.
Wendell closed his acceptance speech saying “We are all called to give of our time, and of our resources. We have done well, but there is always more that we can do.”
Attending the Hanson award ceremony was Hoover’s family and member Peggy Grove, his Club sponsor to membership.
Talk About Positive VIBEs at the Rotary Club of Harrisburg

VIBE is an accumulation of the visionary, inspirational, bold and energetic Harrisburg Regional Chamber (HRC) members and individuals who keep the business-centric organization moving forward.

An annual VIBE event demonstrates the upward momentum of our community and serves as the largest fundraiser and gathering of members of the year for the HRC. Attendees enjoy networking and a keynote speaker who address the latest trends in the business industry.

As a part of Rotary Club of Harrisburg and the Harrisburg Regional Chambers’ strategic partnership, Rotarians have been invited to attend as VIP guests at VIBE every year.

This year the Rotary Club of Harrisburg was well represented and got to hear from Harris III on April 27. Rotarians were given access to an exclusive VIP master class as well as the networking reception.

At the event, Harris III, an award-winning illusionist, sought-out keynote speaker, storyteller and event curator was the featured presenter.

It was important for the Rotary Club of Harrisburg to put this strategic partnership to use and to provide our members with the opportunity to learn from Harris III.  Members are invited to talk to this year’s VIBE attendees to get their impressions of the value in attending.

Those attending the VIBE event were provided new opportunities for fellowship and service and the connections made will strengthen Rotary service projects and our influence in the community.

Attending from the RCH this year were:  2022-23 President Elizabeth Mihmet, Immediate Past President Matt Staub, Sue Ward-Diorio, Larry Dittman, Toni Mark, John Hickey, Bob Geiger and RCH Executive Director Addeline Alaniz Edwards.

Any Rotary club of Harrisburg member interested in attending next year’s event should contact Addeline Alaniz Edwards before April 1, 2023.
