Let September be the month you volunteer with our members. Better yet, try something new! You can support Habitat for Humanity with Scott Stevens on Wednesday, September 7, making critical repairs to the Bethany AME Church, or represent the Rotary Club of Harrisburg with Michele Tantardini at the Hispanic Heritage Festival on September 10. Meghan Bachmore is planning a fun and slightly “dirty” Service on a Monday at the McCormick Riverfront Library on September 19 and the city of Harrisburg needs volunteers for Kipona throughout the holiday weekend. There’s more, but I know you can see it all (and register) using the links in your Round Up or visiting the club calendar in Club Runner. Invite a not-yet Rotarian to join you. Snap and share a photo while you are there. Tag the Rotary Club of Harrisburg and use #SeptemberMeansService or #ServiceAboveSelf.

Volunteers Needed to Support the RCH Outreach with the Hispanic Community

Join DEI Chair Michele Tantardini at the Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 10th.

Our club will have an information booth located on the 1300 block of Derry Street.
Choose the setup shift from 9 a.m. to 12:30 or the 12:30 to 4 p.m. closing shift.  Festival attendees will receive Rotary Club of Harrisburg information and a membership application.  There will be a cornhole game for festival goers for some added fun to our pitch!
Participation in the Festival is one of the board’s diversity initiatives.  President Beth is committed to emphasizing our club’s DEI outreach this year, so please consider helping with this community outreach project!

The Ride to Eradicate Polio is October 1st. The first 100 to register get a purple t-shirt. This is a family-friendly ride - not a race! Join us and your registration fee will be directed to Rotary’s End Polio Now effort and tripled by the Gates Foundation. It’s still a show and go start (8:00-11:00 a.m.) but the bagel brunch and the “I went the distance” sticker is new this year. Ride the entire trail from Shippensburg to Newville and back (26 miles) and you get the sticker and the bragging rights!
Our Pancake Breakfast Committee invites you to
SAVE THE DATE TO SERVE
on Saturday, October 8.

Our annual pancake breakfast is a signature event for the club, and all proceeds are directed to programs serving the Harrisburg Community, including college scholarships and assistance for displaced students in the Harrisburg School District. The event takes place at Harrisburg High School – John Harris Campus and the community is welcome 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Everyone can support this event and these students, by making a gift through our website.
Rotary Club of Harrisburg
Club Meeting Minutes
August 29, 2022
Submitted by Andy Rebuck

Peaches!  Boy, oh boy, I love peaches!   What?   What am I doing?   Well, I was just thinking about the peaches I enjoyed for breakfast today and how wonderful fresh fruit is on a hot summer day.   Sure, I guess I can also pen the minutes of the August 29th meeting of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg but only if I can keep thinking about yummy fresh fruit.

Strawberries!   No matter how you dice them you have to love strawberries---and on top of shortcake too!   Meeting kicked off at 12:12 sharp with a full house and gong on the bell by President Beth who introduced Kool Kevin and Marvelous Marion to offer today’s invocation and Club song.   Greeter extraordinaire Miriam welcomed guests of Beth, Toni, Wendell and  Me---noting she gave them this year’s Rotary theme pin as gentle suggestion of membership.

Watermelon!   How much watermelon can you eat?   Bruce Grossman invited all Club skiers to consider joining Rotary members from around the world at this year’s Rotary sponsored trips to Park City Utah and to Japan.  Send photos from the top if you go!   Beth encouraged less travel and just as much fun if you sign up for the bike ride to support Polio eradication on October 1st---don’t spin your wheels go ahead and sign up now.

Cantaloupe!   Does the quip go, you can get married, but you can’t elope?   All kidding aside, we raised $153 to End Polio now via Good News Reporting!   Sure, it was sweet to hear that our Annual Pancake Breakfast is slated for October 8th---gear up and volunteer please.   Indeed, there was lots of good news and thankful to our generous members for sharing and donating for this great cause.

Blueberries!   Color me purple, but Blueberries are a favorite.   (Gail freezes them and the grandkids eat them frozen as a sweet wonderful treat.)   Ellen in her witty wonderful way introduced today’s guest speaker, Skip Weber, Head of the Milton Hershey Schools.   Skip was just as cool as those blueberries in outlining his obvious pride in representing this great legacy of Milton Hershey.

Corn on the Cob!   Sure, I can switch from fruit to veggies as long as I stay with the summer time best!   Our speaker was the best in outlining the goals of the school and faculty and how they know that to whom much is given, much is expected and how these students are supported from day one until well after they leave the campus.   I hope you attended this meeting in person or via Zoom and that you get a chance to enjoy lots of yummy summer fruit.   Meeting adjourned 1:00 sharp.
Do you have a Rotary announcement?
Please provide all content to Addeline in the format you would like it to be published before 8:00 a.m. on TUESDAY for Friday morning's Rotary Roundup.
