Rotary Fellowships are international groups that share a common passion. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends around the world, explore a hobby or profession, and enhance your Rotary experience.
Tent, Sleeping Bag, Lantern--what? What am I doing? Well, I am making my list to go camping with President James of course. What? Sure, I can provide the minutes of the Rotary meeting today, but only if I can keep going with my list. Deal!
It was 12:00 and Rotary Club of Harrisburg members Zoomed into our weekly meeting being greeted by a “Happy Monday, I am getting some R & R camping today” from President James.
Fishing Rod, Bait and Tackle---the bell rang five times and then President James suggested a moment of silence to recognize and pray for our nation and leaders as we face challenges. The talented Ted Reese played a terrific Taps in honor of last week’s Memorial Day. We were urged to read the Round Up cover to cover, James gave a shout out to Addeline for her work to update the Roundup, noted our lunch money today donated to Salvation Army and asked all to update their on-line Club Runner contact information and to sign up at hbgrotary.org for committees in the coming year.
Hiking Boots, Walking Stick, Compass---Past President Andy hosted our annual meeting with three notes. First, Rotary provides unique opportunity to hone leadership skills. Call Andy if you have an interest in leadership with our Club. Second, we are blessed with awesome leaders. Special thanks to all who serve and to outgoing Board Members, Awesome Amy, Terrific Ted and Atta-Boy Anthony. Super special high-five to Past President Sam for a great run through the Club Chairs. Third, the nominating slate of Board and Officers was read and the vote was called with a unanimous thumbs up.
Marshmallows, Chocolate, Graham Crackers----our super-star exchange student Isabelle Zoomed into our meeting and walked us through her amazing year in Pa with photos and narrative about host families, trips she enjoyed, Rotary weekends, High-School football games, School Work and finished with a “thank you so much for hosting me and making this year possible…I’ll be back.”
Sunscreen, Bug Repellant, First Aid Kit---it was 12:28 and we could see Ski, but we could not hear Ski, so David Misner pinch hit an intro of our Speaker today, George Rudolph, CEO of PSECU. George wasted no time, Zooming into a personal note about Hometown Philly, 30 years of experience in Credit Unions and Airlines, twenty years in Chicago and relocating to Harrisburg April 2019. Did not know this but our speaker proudly noted that PSECU was formed 85 years ago when twenty-two folks piled up a whopping $90 to create an institution to benefit all members. Speaking of proud, George noted that PSECU is the largest Union with 450,000 members and $6 B in assets.
Coffee Pot, Coffee, Rotary Coffee Cup---our Club members heard that one of our founding Corporate Sponsors, PSECU, is member-owned and not-for-profit allowing them to return earnings for free services and low rates. The smile-maker for this scribe was the line “Banking on a difference” as we learned that a philosophy is people helping people and information on dramatic support of our communities. (No kidding as many of our members were chatting on their key pads how PSECU supports our area.) Right on cue, George said, “Members love us and we love them—please spread the word, join our family, help yourself and help others too.”
Harmonica, Camp Song Book, Camp Chair---it was 1:03, President James thanked the program committee, reminded all no meeting next week, rang the bell and headed to his favorite fishing hole.
Our Youth Exchange Student, Isabell Mathias, will be departing from Harrisburg on June 12. If you would like to meet at 1:00 for a send-off, please contact Carolyn Dumaresq.
