- Focus on child victims of family violence, sexual assault, physical violence, & abandonment / neglect
- “What is authentic service?”
- Service is not:
- Charity
- Not a hand down, but a hand up between equals
- Not an us doing for them, or an outgroup / ingroup
- Service is not sympathy – “I’m sorry”
- Sympathy has a power differential as you’re sympathizing down to someone
- Service IS – empathy, where one can look at you in a human experience & understand you
- This is Rick’s single biggest goal – to practice empathy
- Values of VOCE
- Do the right thing
- Be builders of passion
- Help other see hope and potential
- Step outside of comfort zone – be humble and vulnerable
- These values compliment Rotary’s “4-way test”
- Bob ended the meeting with a well-deserved round of applause for Rick & his presentation!
- Next Rotary luncheon meeting at the Hilton is Monday 11/14
