The ingenuity worked!

Fears of an unsuccessful RCH Pancake Breakfast were dashed when the “Fantastic Flippin!” Pancakes For A Purpose committee, engaged sponsors and RCH members put Service Above Self…again.
Even the Covid-related issues can’t keep a good team from exceeding their goal.  While the typical pancake breakfast workforce of the past two decades couldn’t use the Harrisburg School District facility due to Covid restrictions, chairs Marion C. Alexander, Past President Karen Paris and “pancake flippin’” committee members imagined a way to raise money, engage RCH members and fill empty bellies with fantastically flipped pancakes.  A two-pronged strategy was to deliver all the necessary fixings to area social agencies to feed their clients and to ask RCH members to pledge $100 for a “fixin’s” kit.  Both strategies worked.

For a bit of perspective, past pancake breakfasts have raised more than $30,000  with a net to the Harrisburg Rotary  Foundation just under that.  Most often, previous efforts  engaged approximately 30 sponsors and 80 plus of our member support for tickets.  This year the PFAP committee set a modest goal of at least $15,000 and if at all possible securing $23,000 to provide funding for $15K to school homeless programs and $8K to student scholarships.

To date, PFAP wants to thank 18 committed sponsors and approximately 50 RCH members in celebration of an anticipated net bottom line of $22,500.  Members can still make their $100 contribution to the PFAP initiative to the Harrisburg Rotary Foundation by check or on our Club’s website.

Long-time pancake breakfast planner, supporter, promoter extraordinaire, Andy Rebuck, adds, “We are going to celebrate this year’s success and sponsor support with a banner at upcoming meetings and on display when we provide the Harrisburg School District with a $15,000 check in December.  We’ll also celebrate in a big way with billboards about town.  Lamar Outdoor will provide approximately 20 different billboard designs (around $20K worth of billboard time) over the coming days as we close out 2021.  All this is flipping great.  And, topping this stack of success is our challenge to members to get pancakes  on the griddles and create smiles with family and friends this weekend.”

As a reminder, the PFAP committee asks RCH members to take lots of photos of everyone sharing in the great delights of a pancake breakfast.  Photos can be uploaded to https://photos.app.goo.gl/qpsR3LSgyMt1SWF78   Entered photos will be entered into a raffle for fame, fortune and fun.

The Saline’s Photo and Story…

Deborah and I decided to donate our PFAP kit to the annual Boy Scout Troop 54 Food Drive.  Our son and I were active with the troop that was organized in 1947.  So for our food donation this year, we added the pancake kit.  Picking our collection of boxed and canned donations were scouts Noah Shambaugh and Kale Morales.  Accompanying the scouts was Keith Clark of Shumaker & Williams PC.  He helped create the food drive for the troop and was one of my favorite clients in the past.
