Overnight in Harrisburg for Youth Exchange Students January 10-12.
Facebook D7390 Youth Exchange page (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1AKDrWMhGa/), but last weekend we took our students to Philadelphia and joined up with several other districts and their exchange students for a lovely weekend exploring the city and doing Halloween-y things. In reciprocation, we have invited these same students and their chaperones to come to Harrisburg in January and join us for a weekend exploring the state capital city. The district in Philadelphia had lots of support from their home club to help with the students, and I'm hoping we can do something similar - I'm hoping you will all be willing to help out with the weekend
We have selected the weekend of January 10-12 specifically because of the Farm Show.
Here is a proposed agenda, now that we are including 8 more students and their chaperones who will be coming from out of town.
Friday - arrive at the Tenny Home - 2344 Abbey Lane - Rotarians from Harrisburg join students and visiting Rotarian chaperons for a covered-dish dinner at the Tenny Home - 6:00 - 9:00pm (sign-ups to bring items forthcoming) - Students and visiting Rotarian chaperons spend the night at the Tenny home
Saturday - breakfast at the Tenny home - Rotarians from Harrisburg join students and visiting Rotarian chaperons for breakfast (breakfast donation items welcomed) and for the day's activities:
Sunday - breakfast at the Tenny home (pancakes?) - Rotarians from Harrisburg join students and visiting Rotarian chaperons for breakfast (breakfast donation items welcomed) and for the day's activities:
Please email Jill Tenny (rotaryd7390youthexchange@gmail.com) if you would be willing to help chaperone at any time during this weekend, or if you would be willing to donate food items to feed everyone. I welcome other members of the Hbg Rotary Club to attend as well! Anyone without clearances must always be in the presence of another adult who does have clearances. Anyone without clearances may never be alone with an exchange student(s). |

This year, the Commonwealth Monument Project, part of the International Institute for Peace Through Tourism (IIPT) organization (Harrisburg is the only City in PA that has an IIPT project), will successfully wrap up a seven-year plan to create an African American tourism destination in Harrisburg with the installation of the Commonwealth Monument statue on the Capitol Grounds. As part of the project, descendants of the displaced families from the Old Eighth Ward were located by Messiah College students and invited to Harrisburg for the monument dedication. The descendants of the Old Eight Ward will join us to be recognized for their involvement. Lenwood Sloan, the architect behind this initiative, will provide an overview and honor the descendants during this special program.
