March on the Rotary calendar is Water and Sanitation month.  Rotary’s target challenge to develop sustainable water, sanitation, hygiene, and education projects is being piloted in five countries: Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, India, and Kenya. The Rotary Foundation is changing the world by providing grants for projects and activities around the globe and in our own backyard (the Lake Erie western basin).

Some interesting statistics from the Rotary Foundation:
$24 per year is all it takes to provide one person with safe water,
23 million people now have safe water due to Rotary’s efforts,
21 million people have access to sanitation and hygiene thanks to Rotary projects,
2030 is the year that Rotary hopes to finish providing everyone with safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.

We don’t just build wells and walk away. Rotary members integrate water, sanitation, and hygiene into education projects. When children learn about disease transmission and practice good hygiene, they miss less school. And they can take those lessons home to their families, magnifying our impact.
