Lynn Cultural District Director speaks to Lynn Rotary Club

Kate Luchini, Director of the Lynn  Cultural District, spoke to the Lynn Rotary recently and presented to the members the vision of the Cultural  District, and what has happened so far.  She spoke of the efforts the Cultural District has been undertaking in promoting cultural events in the downtown area and in attracting businesses to the area.  She spoke of the success that the Lynn City Hall Auditorium has had in attracting visitors to the area, and how that success has helped other businesses such as restaurants in the area.  Kate also spoke about how important it is to provide clear directions in the downtown area, so that visitors will know where to go and where to park, with discussions centering around signage, traffic flow, and upgraded lighting in the area.

Several new businesses have opened in the area including a new coffee shop, the School of Rock, a boutique, and an antique store.  Additionally, the former Arnold’s Stationary Building in Central Square has been refurbished and is ready for studio rental by artists.   Luchini also spoke about efforts of the cultural district in providing opportunities for local artists to have places to work, show or sell their work, cooperate in promoting the cultural district, and in maintaining a presence in the area.

As Cultural District Director, she sought out input from the club members so that she would hear their voices regarding the development of the area, and the questions were lively and thought provoking.  Club members were pleased to hear of this important cultural and development effort in the downtown area and in those other areas in Lynn where artists were in residence.

Lynn Disability Commission Members address the Lynn Rotary Club

Two members of the Lynn Disability Commission Members recently addressed the Lynn Rotary Club outlining the role of the Disability Commission in the community and highlighting recent efforts undertaken by members of the Commission to make the community more able to serve disabled residents.  Nick Capano and Roger Ennis spoke to club members about the recent upgrade of a trail in the Lynn Woods Reservation designed to allow disabled residents to access the Lynn Woods and enjoy the area as do other residents.  Nick was the driving force behind the project and he was able to get volunteer help from the community at large, particularly from Meninno Construction.  The work involved widening and leveling a path through the woods to allow wheel chairs to use the area, and was accomplished all with volunteer help.

Club members were interested in learning that the Commission was working to help the disabled in the City, and were appreciative of the efforts made by Nick and other Commission members in accomplishing this recent important project.  Nick also made known another project he has in mind to pursue in the future which would allow disabled residents in wheel chairs to more easily have access to the beach nearby.  Club members have no doubt that he and other Commission members will have success in pursuing this project too,  thus adding another attractive feature to the Lynn area.
