Drew Russo addresses the Lynn Rotary Club

Club member Drew Russo was a speaker at our recent luncheon meeting and what a speaker he was!  Drew spoke with passion about how his career to date has incorporated service to the City of Lynn, and how that experience influenced him to join Rotary.  He spoke of his pride in Lynn and in the prospects of making the city a better place to live.  He spoke about how Rotary’s “Service Above Self” mantra was attractive to him and he spoke with pride about the efforts that the combined Lynn Museum and Lynn Arts have been taking to build up the arts offerings in downtown Lynn.

As newly named Director of these institutions, Drew is influential in efforts to bring in new and exciting programs designed to attract a wide range of people into the city.  Club members were all very impressed by Drew’s presentation and expressed pride in his recent membership in the Club.  Members were also so glad to think that Drew would be one of the leaders of the City in the future.

Lynn Rotarians attend North Shore Navigators Game in Spite of Downpour

The Lynn Rotary Club had a great time at Frasier Field, watching the North Shore Navigators baseball game Wednesday night, July 1st.  The club members and guests were situated in the 3rd base party tent and it was a good thing that it was so handy too!  After seeing some good baseball and enjoying each other’s company, the group watched the sky open up with rain for 15 minutes or so as it dumped a lot of water on the field.  Club members and guests just continued visiting and enjoying the “all you can eat” food while standing under the tent watching the field crew try make the field ready to continue the game.  The rain shortened game was ultimately won by the home town Navigators 2-0 over the Brockton Rox. Notice club member Mark Kennard standing by an enormous downpour, but staying dry under the roof at Frasier Field.

The group of 15 included Bill and Peg Simpson, Bob and Nora Dugas, Mark Kennard, Jim and Chris Harris, Dick and Cathy Ruth, Steve Upton, and guests Joe and Beth Upton with their children Ainslie and Leslie.  It was the first ever baseball game for the children (2 and 4 years old) and they were so excited.  They kept chanting “Go Red Sox”.  Even though they are residents of Illinois, it seems their father’s influence has made them part of Red Sox nation, even when another team is on the field!  All in all it was a good night for the club members, guests, and for the Rotary Club of Lynn.

A good time was had by all
