Volunteers Wanted help in producing newsletter

Newsletter Volunteers wanted

Help is needed to produce TIPS more regularly, and, hopefully, in a more exciting manner.  This editor is asking if anyone from the luncheon club or from the satellite club could volunteer to help in the production of TIPS.  These folks would work with me to produce the newsletter and maintain our website with the information from the newsletter.

This volunteer work would encompass planning newsletter articles, writing occasional articles, and being part of a production team.  Coordination could be in meetings or just over the phone and computer.  We would cooordinate with our Facebook coordinator, Brenda Ortiz in her work of posting club pictures and events.  Interested persons should contact me at: supton01@hotmail.com.  This is an important need and we could use our newsletter to let large numbers of folks know about the great work of the Lynn Rotary Club!

The Shift: The Explosive Growth of the Latino Market

Combined Rotary meeting presents great speakers regarding "The Shift"

A combined meeting was held recently between the Lynn Rotary Club, the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce, and the North Shore Latino Business Association.  It was a great success and the Rotary Club welcomed a large number of guests to our weekly meeting.  The meeting featured two speakers from the communication firm El Mundo, Alberto  Vasallo, President/CEO, and Elvis Lara, Director of Social Media for the company.  The topic was the explosive growth of the Latino market in the United States, and how this demographic will affect business nationally in the years to come.  Alberto Vasallo presented the demographic trends but also the implications of this upon the businesses of Rotary and Chamber of Commerce members.  The Latino population is now 55 Million in the US, and has a buying power of 1.5 Trillion dollars annually.  Club members were impressed with the presentation and with the information provided.  Additionally, the Rotary Club was able to present how our club was involved with service to the community, much of which is Latino in our immediate area.  A few guests approached President Ray and asked for more information about Rotary and were interested in joining.

This volunteer work would encompass planning newsletter articles, writing occasional articles, and being part of a production team.  Additionally, we need a more consistent Facebook posting of club pictures and events.  The club needs a more expansive social media presence in order to get out or message of Service Above Self.  Interested persons should contact me at: supton01@hotmail.com.  This is an important need and we could use our newsletter to let large numbers of folks know about the great work of the Lynn Rotary Club!

Lynn Rotarians Escort Lynn kids to camp

Lynn Rotarians Escort Lynn Kids to Camp

In recent weeks, a number of volunteer Rotarians from the Lynn Rotary Club have acted as escorts for campers traveling to or from a week at Camp Rotary.  Reports from the volunteers so far indicate that the program has been a great success.  Counselors from the camp have also been riding the bus with the Rotarians and the new campers.  None of the new campers have been to camp before and some have been nervous about going away for the week.  The camp counselors and the Rotarians have done a great job at helping new campers become relaxed and ready to enjoy the new experiences of camp.

After the ride to the Camp, Rotarians have been treated to a tour of the Camp reviewing many of the programs offered.  The camp has programs in swimming, sailing, kayacking and canoeing.  A tour of the camp also featured a BMX bike course, tennis court, extreme Frisbee field, archery , soccer, shooting, basketball courts and a great rope course.  Recent renovations and new cabins have created comfortable but rustic camp buildings which provide the authentic camp experience.

The Escort program has helped experienced Lynn Rotarians remember the great programs offered at Camp Rotary and has helped introduce Camp Rotary to some of our newest members.  Special thanks for club member Jim Harris for organizing the program.
