Jessica Barnett spoke to the Lynn Rotary at the club meeting of October 10, 2013. She spoke about the Rotaract Club which is sponsored by five Rotary clubs, one of which is Lynn. After explaining how important the Lynn club was as a founding partner, she mentioned how club member Elaine Kurkul was also an important help in founding the Rotaract club. Jessica asked the Lynn club to appoint a representative from Lynn to the Board of Directors for the Rotaract club. That board helps direct the activities of the Rotaract club which over the last year or two has included a variety of community service activities and fundraisers. She feels that Rotaract would benefit from new ideas that a representative from Lynn Rotary could bring. President Obie mentioned that our Lynn club was going to work with a Rotary club from Rhode Island in their international project of sending books to a school in Ghana. He mentioned that this could be a good opportunity for the Rotaract members to work with members of our club. Jessica also urged club members to support the upcoming Mayors Breakfast for Scouting which is such a good community event for the scouts and the city. Club members were glad to hear from Jessica about the Rotaract, and hope that the Rotoractors will be interested in helping the Lynn Rotarians in their project with the Rotary club from Jamestown, RI.
The weekly raffle stood at $343 this week but efforts to win it were again not successful. Maria Cacciola and Elaine Kurkul each won the chance to draw the joker from the deck, but the joker and the pot are safe for another week. While the other members wished each of them good luck in their drawing, they are also really glad to have another shot at it next week themselves.
Members of the J. Fergus Gifford Shoe and Stocking Fund are reminded that there is an important meeting on October 17, 2013, at 11:30, in the Porthole Restaurant function room.

A Husband drew up his chair beside his wife while she was doing some work on her sewing machine. "Don't you think you're running too fast?" he asked. "Look out! You'll sew the wrong section. Slow down, watch your fingers! Steady!"
"What on earth is the matter with you?" his wife asked with alarm. "I've been using this machine for years".
"Well, dear. I thought you might like me to help you, since you are always helping me when I am driving the car!"
