Abinash was one of the students who recently presented to our club on behalf of U of A Rotaract.
University of Alberta Rotaract Club
Rotaract members joined us at our most recent meeting where they shared, among other things, what they were up to this summer. The group supported many events during their break with a focus on multiculturalism. They attended various festivals like Cari-West and hosted a multicultural potluck dinner at the Orange Hub. Rotaract members also volunteered at the Edmonton Marathon, and took part in tree planting.
The club divides their activities into advocacy and volunteering, and their area of focus this year is animal health and conservation, as well as vulnerable populations in Edmonton.
Their club currently has 59 members and hosted a successful Consent Carnival in September and kicked off October fundraising with a bake sale. Rotaract is raising funds to send members to Guatamala in February.

Each newsletter we will be focusing on a club member to learn a bit more about them, why they joined Rotary and what makes them stay. This week we feature Kevin McLeod
In this throwback, Kevin is seen here on the far right, smiling behind Tamara during Rotary Whyte Avenue's tenth anniversary celebration.
I'm Kevin McLeod and I have been a member of the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue since 2015. I joined Whyte Ave Rotary in particular because it was clear right away that this was a club that truly lived the motto of fun, fearless, and focused. I love the energy, the people, and the fact that everyone is interested in making a difference in the community. I also love that we are a club that continues to punch well above our weight. We may not be the biggest club, but we always seem to find ways to make a big impact in our community (while having a lot of fun along the way!)
I had the privilege of serving as Club President from 2019-2020, which turned out to be a pretty interesting time to be president. During a period of uncertainty and change with the COVID pandemic, I was really impressed by how flexible and nimble our members were. Plans changed but our club kept adapting and met online every week, supported one another, and found unique ways to continue volunteering in the community. That experience really reinforced for me what makes Whyte Avenue Rotary so special.
Outside of Rotary, most of my days are spent hanging out with my two kids.
