A Purr-fect Evening at the Cat Cafe on Whyte!

Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Ave was very fur-tunate to have had a paws-itively great night of fellowship at the Cat Cafe on Whyte last Tuesday!

Rotarians and guests were introduced to the cats and learned more about the Cat Cafe business model. The group learned that the Cat Cafe owners were inspired to open the cafe from similar stores in their native China, except there you can find cafes dedicated to all kinds of animals - everything from cats, to owls, to hedgehog cafes! Members also learned that cats will often be sent to the cafe to help socialize them - and those cats definitely got some social time with Rotary around!

We're not 'kitten' around, Rotarians and their guests were 'feline' fine after that cafe visit. Thanks to everyone who could make it!

Rotary Spotlight: Stan Bissell

Our club takes a moment each meeting to celebrate the hard work of members, the day to day activities done to support the club, and/or to highlight a positive contribution to the club or community.

This week we celebrate our President-elect and amazing International Services Chair, Stan Bissell! Stan has done tremendous work as the International Services Chair, including making donations to Kiva on behalf of the Club and fundraising for Shelterbox. What's more, as President-elect he has been hard at work helping key Club activities, such as Dodge the Streets. We can already tell that Stan is going to be a great President next year! Thank you Stan for all of your hard work!

The Membership Committee swung into action after the Club visit to the Cat Cafe.  Members got together to brainstorm ways to ensure new members are supported and ensure current members feel engaged. A great first meeting with this fantastic team!

The membership committee leads the outreach and building of new membership each year as well as help new members feel at home in the club. This includes meeting prospective members, helping prospective members through the application process and follow up, and planning membership related events. If you're ever interested in joining this committee, don't hesitate to reach out to kggmcleod@hotmail.com!
