The Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue's Paint for Polio event is being featured in the October edition of Rotary Magazine. It is so exciting to get international recognition for our work on polio eradication! Congratulations to Tamara and Stan B. for getting this acknowledgement off the ground.
October's featured cause is the NASAP as chosen by Elizabeth. The month will feature a presentation at this coming week's meeting as well as a social at the Cat Cafe later in the month.
Nominations for District 5370 Governor for Rotary year 2028-2029 are open!
The process for selecting a District Governor and role qualifications is outlined in the District 5370 Bylaws, District 5370 Policy Manual, and the District 5370 Leadership Handbook. They are consistent with the Rotary International Bylaws, and the Rotary International Manual of Procedures.
Qualifications for District Governor:
Rotarian in good standing.
Holds a classification which is without question and maintains full qualifications of membership.
Member of a functioning club in good standing. The club has no outstanding indebtedness to Rotary International or to the District, as of the close of the year preceding.
Served a full term as president of a club.
A Rotarian for a minimum of five years at the time of the nomination.
Demonstrates willingness, commitment, and the ability (physical and otherwise), to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the office of the District Governor, as stipulated in the RI Manual of Procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of the qualifications, duties, and responsibilities of District Governor, as prescribed in the RI bylaws.
Selection of District Governor Nominee Designate:
Selection of the District Governor Nominee Designate (DGND) shall take place in the fall of the year.
The successful candidate shall take on the designation of DGND until the nominee is ratified through either posting or vote at a Special General Meeting of the membership. (the club is the member),
Current year DG submits to RI, through the General Secretary, a signed statement that the Nominee understands such qualifications, duties, and responsibilities. Such statement shall confirm that the Nominee is qualified for the office of District Governor and willing to faithfully perform all required duties.
Nomination Process of District Governor Nominee Designate:
The candidate must complete the Governor Nominee Data form and be endorsed by their club as evidenced by the Club Secretary’s signature.
The completed form is submitted to the District Governor Nominating Committee Chair through the District Office.
A club may put forth and endorse only one nomination per year.
Candidates are expected to submit a current biography, which includes education, career employment and career highlights, Rotary experience, and volunteer / community achievements.
An essay of maximum 500 words is to be submitted (Schedule A), outlining your thoughts for promoting Rotary's four priorities in the Rotary Action Plan, for the Rotary year 2028-29. They are, "Increase Our Impact, Expand Our Reach, Enhance Participant Engagement, and Increase Our Ability to Adapt".
Preparation for the District Governor role:
The selected candidate is a member of the District Governor leadership stream.
As District Governor Nominee, District Governor Elect and District Governor, you are provided with an educational program at the Rotary Zone level, led by Rotary International.
The DGN and DGE is expected to join District level committees to expand their knowledge and contacts
Rotary International then provides a mandatory, intensive program for all global District Governors-Elect, and partners called the International Assembly, held annually in mid-winter.
Being the District Governor:
Rotary International provides the District Governor with a stipend to assist with expenses incurred in preparation for and support of being the District Governor, including travel, office, and various expenses to enhance your District.
Many District Governors fulfill their responsibilities while continuing to work full time in their careers.
Effective time and financial management skills are essential.
District Governor Nominee nominations will be received until 4:30 P.M. Friday, November 28, 2025.
Candidate interviews will be scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025. Interviews will be held virtually.
