A Rotary Review at Our Club Assembly!

This past Tuesday, Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Ave got together for a club assembly!  As part of the meeting, club members went over the results of the recent member satisfaction survey. The results showed that members really do enjoy being members of our club as well as love the programs organized. For the future, the survey showed that we as a club should focus on strengthening club membership and engagement. One of the follow up's from the membership survey is to plan a brainstorming session to discuss club goals and culture at a future meeting. Committee leads also talked about some of the great activities, including:

- Foundation Committee is putting a Halloween inspired event on Oct. 29 where members can carve pumpkins and dress up, with proceeds going to end Polio.

- Membership Committee is planning to form 'trios' to help create support networks for members.

- Fundraising Committee is hard at work finding sponsors and teams for the upcoming Dodge the Streets.

- Community Services Committee is developing a BBQ in collaboration with the Skills Society in November.

- Communication Committee is planning to start doing member bios on social media.

Great job everyone and thank you for coming!

Rotary Whyte Avenue Represents at the District Conference in Grande Prairie

The Rotary 5370 District Conference in Grande Prairie was in full swing this weekend and a huge contingent from Rotary Whyte Avenue were there to take part! Members had a weekend full of good times and fellowship as well as heard from some amazing guest speakers! Speaker Amanda Lindhout, who survived a kidnapping in Somalia, talked about her amazing story and escape. We also heard from Neil Pasricha, a happiness expert and bestselling author of The Book of Awesome, who talked about finding your own 'awesome.'  We also heard from Mark Brand, who created The Token Program, an alternate currency to feed those in need without a cash exchange, in Vancouver.  Amazing and inspiring stories were heard which has energized all who came out!  Thank you to all the organizers as well as to the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue Rotarians that made it out!

Rotary Whyte Avenue News

Whyte Ave Awarded the Rotary Citation with Silver Distinction

The Rotary Citation is awarded to clubs for achieving goals that strengthen Rotary and the club. Goals include increasing club membership, developing sustainable service projects, giving to The Rotary Foundation, and building awareness of Rotary in the community.

Our Rotary Club won this honour for our achievements over the 2018/19 year. Our club also received the silver distinction for going well beyond the requirements needed to win the Rotary Citation.  Out of the 60 Rotary Clubs in the Rotary 5370 District, only 9 clubs received this honour.

Congratulations to all club members and friends for making the 2018/19 year such a great success!
Winner Named for the Great Whyte Coffee Date Challenge

The fantastic Membership Committee put on the 'Great Whyte Coffee Date Challenge' where members were encouraged to meet with members outside the club and the person who organized the most coffee dates won a fantastic prize!

After dozens of coffee dates, there were several people tied for first. To select a winner, a random name was chosen and the winner was Club President Kevin (unclear at the time of this writing whether there was any influence from the President's office on the results :) ).

Thanks to everyone who played and thank you to the Membership Committee for organizing!

Whyte Ave Supports Relief Efforts in the Bahamas

People in the Bahamas are still suffering from the devastation of Hurricane Dorian.

That's why the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue has donated $250USD to the Robbins Funds, a fund for relief efforts of Rotary International District 6990 (Florida and Bahamas) in order to support.

Thank you to the Stan B. and the International Services Committee for your work organizing this donation!
