Making A Difference One Meal At A Time

Rotarians and friends showed that, even during a pandemic, they remain people of action! This past Tuesday, delicious meals and snacks were made and delivered by the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue for marginalized persons with complex needs who live at Melcor Village and are supported by the Skills Society.

The Club had originally planned a communual night of cooking on March 31st but it had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. But an outbreak of this scale means support from our club is needed more than ever, so the club was innovative and instead members and friends individually made meals for the the folks living at Melcor Village.

All meals were then picked up and taken to Melcor Village by our fearless Community Services Chair Kristin.

Thank you Kristin for your leadership and for organizing this great community service initiative and thank you to everyone for volunteering!

Rotary Goes Virtual for a Friday Social
How do you help curb the spread of COVID-19 and have a great time with friends? By attending a virtual happy hour of course!

Rotarians and friends got together this past Friday to socialize, check-in, and have some nice drinks at our first online social event. President elect Stan showed off his bartending skills by making a delicious looking gin sour to start the night off.

Members and friends chatted about life since the outbreak and had some exciting conversations, including a debate on which movies are more fun: Bollywood (Indian movies) vs. Nollywood (Nigerian movies); great places to get food; and how we can use our free time to take classes online (EDX.org was recommended).

Thanks for everyone who made it out (or stayed in?) for our online event! Thank you to President-elect Stan for teaching us some exciting drinks and for Past President Scott for getting us online!
