This past week's meeting information was shared on the war in Ukraine. I'm happy tp share here that information from that night.

The Kyiv Independent and Kyiv Post are two news sources from Ukraine that report in English we encourage you all to read their incredible reporting during the ongoing war in Ukraine.
In recent days, homes in Ukraine have been damaged or destroyed. Innocent civilians are being killed, families and lives are being torn apart. The UN is reporting hundreds of thousands of people on the move inside the country or trying to leave.
They are predicting as many as 12 million people may need humanitarian assistance inside Ukraine.
Additionally, the UN predicts that as many as 4 million refugees may be seen as a result of this crisis. More than 874,000 people are reported to have already fled Ukraine to neighboring countries [as of Tuesday 1 March 2022].
ShelterBox is responding to the Ukraine crisis. A team is on their way. We will be sending aid and are working to understand who is doing what so we can avoid duplication and get as many people as possible the support they need. We are liaising with Rotary and Rotaract leadership and members in the region to coordinate information and better understand the situation. We have connected with District 2231 in Poland and with the wider regional coordination framework under RI Director Katarina Kotsalis.
ShelterBox is responding to the Ukraine crisis. Our teams have arrived in Poland and are working to understand how best we can help people affected by this crisis. We will be sending aid and are liaising with others to avoid duplication and ensure as many people as possible get the support they need.
The Rotary Club of Edmonton South announces that, using our Charitable Trust and building on our past effective and successful partnership on projects with the Rotary Club of Rivne in Ukraine, we can accept financial donations to provide humanitarian relief to Ukraine. RC Rivne will expend the funds on humanitarian relief in Ukraine. Donations of $50 or more will receive a charitable donation tax receipt.
Donations may be made via e-transfer or cheque.
Rotarians in Poland and Ukraine have set up a “Green Corridor” for aid shipments, which we can access for those interested in sending shipments of goods. This operates once goods are in Poland.

Hello everyone!
There is an ever-pressing need to support our community partners in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our six previous make-ahead meal events were so well received, we are organizing another one! Again, we are going to make individual meals for the eleven folks supported by the Skills Society, who are living at Melcor YMCA Village.
I am asking members/friends of our club to make 11 individually-portioned meals to be ready for pick-up (or we may have a centralized drop-off location) on the evening of Tuesday, March 29th. Please have your meals packaged in new, microwave-safe, individual containers. Please label your containers with the name of the meal and the date made. Of note: you do not need to list out the ingredients in the meals/baked goods.
We will have someone deliver the pre-packaged meals and baked goods to Melcor (you can pass your meals along either having been refrigerated or frozen).
The health of our members and the folks we support is of utmost importance. Please do not sign up or make meals if you (or a loved one in your home) are feeling under the weather. If you sign up to cook a meal, and become symptomatic of any illness, please be in contact with me and we can find you a replacement.
Please make sure to follow hand hygiene practices when shopping, prepping and packing your meals - let's all do our part to minimize the risk of spread of disease.
Of the 11 people whom we are meal prepping for, 2 of the individuals are living with diabetes. Please be concise of making your meal 'heart healthy' with reduced sugar content. If you need help meal planning, please don't hesitate to reach out! There are no other allergies or food intolerances to be aware of for meal preparation.
If you want to support this initiative but are unable to cook or bake meals, please reach out to me and we can figure out where your efforts are best suited.
I will be in touch with each of the volunteers to arrange pick-up times on the evening of March 29th.

As you may know, the U of A Rotaract Club annually hosts Rotaraction for Change to support a a very worthy local charity. It is their signature event of the year much in the same way our Gala Dinner and Auction is our signature event, and unfortunately it has been sidelined for the last two years because of the pandemic.
The organizers of this event thank you for your financial support, your donation of auction items, and your purchase of their 50/50 raffle tickets, however what they really need are people to attend this event, both to witness firsthand their good work and the good work of their charity partner, Dogs With Wings, and also to bid on the auction items they will be offering for sale.

Rotaraction for Change: Project Paws will take place on Saturday, March 19th, 2022 at the Hazeldean Community Hall (9630 66 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4W9) from 7:00-9:30 pm.
During the night, there will be many interactive activities revolving around the impactful ways that Dogs with Wings gives back to the community in addition to live music, appetizers, and a cash bar. We will also be hosting a silent auction and 50/50 raffle, where you will have the chance to win some paw-some prizes! One of the items showcased at the auction is a WestJet flight voucher!
This evening will focus on advocacy and education in support of Dogs with Wings Assistance Dog Society. Dogs with Wings provides trained assistance dogs to individuals with disabilities in order to help them foster independence and integration within the community. The cost to breed, raise, train and place an Assistance Dog with a client averages $40,000 per dog, and the client only ever pays $1. Dogs with Wings leads by example in the international community of assistance dog training schools. Their mission is to foster integration and independence for individuals with disabilities by providing them with highly trained assistance dogs and aftercare.
Tickets are $45 for the general public and $30 for individual students. If you’re a student and are able to “bring a friend”, tickets will be reduced to $20 for each individual. **Note: This event is 18+ only. Valid IDs will be checked at the door.**
Attire for the evening is business-casual. The venue has free parking and is also a two minute walk away from an ETS transit stop.
