Who's Who? with Lochlan Keylor
On Tuesday May 18,  Lochlan Keylor gave his Who's Who? classification talk in an engaging and lighthearted fireside-chat format with his Rotary sponsor, Paige Reeves. As Lochlan answered questions from Paige, we got to learn more about his life, career, interests, and what brought Lochlan to Rotary. Lochlan shared with us how he completed the hospitality management program at NAIT with the support of Inclusion Alberta and was working as a banquet server and host for corporate events at Fort Edmonton Park prior to the pandemic. Lochlan is an avid reader and has been a long-time member of a book club; he is a connoisseur of fine cocktails; he is also an accomplished Toastmaster and will be the president of his Toastmaster club next year. Lochlan is obviously very social and likes to stay busy, which makes him a great Rotarian. Thanks for sharing with us Lochlan, introducing your cats to us, and making us laugh.
Rotary Integrity Awards
The 17th Annual Rotary Integrity Awards were held on Monday May 17th. Rotary clubs in the greater Edmonton area are able to nominate one non-Rotarian who they feel is a local hero; this year, the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue nominated Margo Long, President and CEO of Youth Empowerment Support Services (YESS). Margo took home an Integrity Award for her passion in bringing community support for youth in the Edmonton area. Our club was so happy that someone who exemplifies the motto "service above self" was able to able to be recognized. After winning her award, Margo said, "Of all the achievements I have to be proud of in my life, being recognized for my integrity and service is truly incredible." Congratulations Margo.
Rotaract Symposium
The first online Rotaract symposium was held on March 19th & 20th. Anna from the U of A Rotaract Club attended our club meeting on June 18th to tell us about the symposium that they attended and helped plan. The event was open to Rotaract groups from across Canada and featured speakers that are relevant to Rotaractors. The symposium was the first large-scale Rotaract training event in our region, providing tailored club officer and district Rotaract representative training sessions that will help set Rotaract leaders up for success so they can turn their club's most ambitious projects into reality. The Whyte Avenue Rotary club was happy to sponsor 16 students from the U of A Rotaract Club to attend the conference.

Foundation Moment

What is the Year-End Deadline for Making a Rotary Foundation Gift?

Every year, June 30th is the deadline for contributions to count toward a Rotary club’s final giving amount for that Rotary year. Club members are encouraged to make their year-end gifts as early as possible in order to ensure that their gift is processed on time.  Remember, every contribution that is made to Annual Fund-SHARE by June 30th this year will result in more grant funding for your club and district three years from now.

Make your year-end contributions today to ensure that your club can make a difference in the world tomorrow.  Please visit https://www.rotary.org/en/donate.
