Congratulations Whyte Avenue Rotary!
The Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue won the award for Rotary Club of the Year at the Vision 2020 Virtual District Conference. Congratulations to all of the club members and last year's executive team! 
Past District Governor, Tracey Vavrek, said that "The Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue took the 2019-2020 theme—Rotary Connects the World—and ran with it." Some of the achievements that helped our club win this award included providing more than 1,000 volunteer hours to community service projects and donating more than $19,000 in cash, goods and services to communities in need. Responding to 2019-2020 RI President Mark Maloney’s call to increase club diversity, our club recruited new members who reflect the diversity of Rotary, including younger members and people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We were also recognized for finding ways to keep members connected and serve the community during the pandemic; this included supporting the Edmonton Food Bank, Operation Friendship (a program for seniors in need) and preparing and delivering 400 meals to others in need.

Tamara Larsen has generously donated Rotarian at Work T-shirts to our club. She has them available in a variety of sizes and two different styles. They are $10 and funds collected will be donated to Polio eradication. Contact Tamara to get your t-shirt!
Mustard Seed Dinner2Door Program

The Mustard Seed has launched its Dinner2Door program which delivers hot meals to Edmontonians in need who are unable to access regular food programming due to isolation or social distancing. The contactless-delivery system ensures those living in poverty still have access to warm meals even during such unprecedented times.

Mustard Seed volunteers safely prepare, freeze, and package “take-away” meals, which are then delivered to the doors of registered individuals and families across the city, five times a week. In compliance with COVID-19 protocols outlined by Alberta Health Services, volunteers maintain safe social spacing at all times.

Delivery drivers are needed to pick up pre-packaged, frozen meals from the Mustard Seed Location (10635 96 St NW) every Thursday in October. We need 3 drivers per shift. Sign up for one Thursday or as many dates you can help.

Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check
All Rotary club members are asked to complete a Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check for situations when you may be in a position of trust or authority of vulnerable persons, such as children under 18 years of age, the elderly or the disabled. It is important that all club members have a current VPRC when volunteering in the community. A VPRC must be redone every three years. Unfortunately, an information check done for another organization cannot be used to complete this requirement.
 
The Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check can be done online for $15 with a volunteer letter from the club.

Highway Cleanup Community Service Event
The Rotary Club of Edmonton West club is doing a Highway Clean-up community service event on Saturday September 26th and has invited Whyte Avenue club members to join in.
 
There is a section of Highway 16 that the club will be ridding of rubbish. They are meeting at A&W in Acheson at 10am on the 26th and will pick up garbage for a few hours.

What is a Major Donor and Arch Klumph Society Member?
 
Major Donor – The Rotary Foundation recognizes individuals or couples whose combined giving reaches US$10,000, regardless of the gift designation. This recognition level can be achieved only through personal contributions. Major Donors may elect to receive a crystal recognition piece and pin(s) commemorating the gift at each new recognition level. Since Rotary’s Major Donor recognition began there have been over 30,000 Major Donors. 
 
Arch Klumph Society – Donors whose cumulative gifts total US$250,000 or more are recognized as Arch Klumph Society members. Recognition includes an induction ceremony and your picture and biography in the Arch Klumph Society interactive gallery at the Rotary International headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, USA. Members also receive invitations to society events, along with membership pins and crystals that commemorate their giving level. Since the society’s creation in 2004, there have been over 700 Arch Klumph Society members.
