Once again we will NOT be having a meeting this week as we're extending the long weekend for ourselves. So enjoy your night off this Tuesday, July 5th.
The following Tuesday, July 12th, we will be getting together for our in person Change Over party. We'll be meeting at Site #1 at Hawrelak Park. Come on by from 5:30pm - 7:00pm. We will be proving hot dogs and some side salads. If you would like something else it will be on you to bring it and prepare it. Also note, this site is approved for alcohol. If you choose to bring something please be responsible and do not drink and drive. I really hope to see all of you there!!!!
Club Survey
As we've begun a new year we are contemplating having a Speaker Series. This would consist of multiple presenters who all speak on the same topic. We have yet to decide logistics such as how long would the Speaker Series be but we are interested in your thoughts. Casino!!!!
We are able to do a casino this year and we have been given a date in September. Please start thinking about who could help us with this Casino as we will need volunteers. More casino will be coming shortly.
Jennifer Jones
Rotary International President Jennifer Jones is coming to Edmonton on July 9th as part of her Cross Canada Tour. How exciting to have Rotary’s first woman President who is also a Canadian visiting our District.
My committee has been working hard planning the activities as she meets Rotarians in action during the day. We hope you will join us for “The Evening with Jennifer Jones”; an opportunity to meet Jennifer and other Rotary International leaders, experience a showcase of district projects, enjoy a delicious reception style meal, be inspired by a short but exciting program and reconnect with friends.

RI President, Jennifer Jones will be visiting Edmonton on July 9th, 2022. As part of the organized events there will be a joint 'Day of Impact' to commemorate this momentous occasion. Two tree planting events have been organized through the City of Edmonton's Root for Trees Program. Jennifer Jones will be visiting both sites!

Date: Saturday July 9, 2022
Time: 9:00 - 11:00 am
Locations: Terrace Heights and Sifton Park - The Program Leader will contact us at least 1 week prior to your volunteer shift to confirm details, the exact location of the planting site, meeting location, directions/parking, and to answer any questions that we may have.
We have a maximum of 60 volunteer spots. We would like to fill both sites with Rotarians, Rotaract and Friends for maximum impact when Jennifer Jones visits.
We plant outdoors, so please dress for the weather! Working in a natural area, it is possible that you may encounter thistles, sticks, or garbage. Consider dressing in layers, long pants, and a hat. Volunteers must wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes, such as runners. Volunteers may not participate in planting activities if they wear inappropriate footwear, such as sandals, flip-flops, or high heel shoes.
City of Edmonton Vaccination Policy:
The City of Edmonton’s A1701A Administrative Procedure: COVID-19 Vaccination requires volunteers to be Fully Vaccinated (2 doses or more) against COVID-19 before engaging in volunteer work. By participating you agree that you (or in the case of a guardian signing on behalf of a minor participant, any participant aged 12-17) are Fully Vaccinated or have an approved exemption from the City, and that you are prepared to show proof if requested. This does not apply for participants under the age of 12.
If you are feeling unwell please do not attend.
Remember to bring a water bottle and snacks, as planting trees can be a very physical activity! We suggest you bring sunscreen, bug spray, and anything else that will make your volunteer shift an enjoyable experience. Root for Trees will supply the shovels, gloves, and plants.
Please discuss any special concerns, severe allergies, or medical conditions with the Program Leader at that time. We want to ensure that everyone has a safe planting experience.

District Governor Donna Barrett's Year End Message
During the past year, it has been my pleasure and an inspiration to meet so many wonderful Rotarians and Rotaractors who have embodied our theme Serve to Change Lives. As I visited clubs, I had the opportunity to appreciate first-hand Rotary’s capacity to bring together diverse and talented leaders who take collective action to bring lasting change in our communities and across the globe.
Your actions this year impacted the success of your club and our district. You contributed to Rotary’s quest to promote diversity, equity and inclusion by demonstrating open, collaborative and welcoming attitudes. You have been flexible- reaching out to meet people where they are, creating hybrid meetings and looking for ways to maintain Rotary connections. You have remained keenly aware of community needs, adjusting how you provide service, building on established community connections and exploring new opportunities for partnership.
In a world that needs to build good will and better friendships, you have supported global grant scholarships, youth exchange and embraced becoming Peace Builder Clubs. You have been forward thinking, seeking ways to increase our capacity to empower girls and sustain our environment.
Rotary generosity has continued throughout the year. Contributions to the Foundation are strong and will support our ability to do good works locally and internationally into the future. We can all be proud of how we are collectively responding to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Rotarians contributed generously to the Ukraine Disaster Response and supported partner organizations such as Shelterbox. Collectively we have successfully accessed a Global grant to purchase a centrifuge to increase capacity for use of donated blood in Ukraine. Close ties to the Ukraine have enhanced the impact of our support in unique and meaningful ways.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Better Together District Conference in May. Feedback identified fellowship, networking and the opportunity to hear inspirational speakers as highlights. 87 percent of those who provided feedback indicated that they felt more connected to Rotary as a result of their participation.
I wish to extend my gratitude to you for your continued commitment to Rotary and Rotary service. I look forward to supporting incoming District Governor John Nicoll as weImagine Rotary and to meeting incoming RI President Jennifer Jones when she visits Edmonton on July 9, 2022.
