December was a busy month two service projects: Skills Society Stocking Stuffing and our annual Christmas dinner with the Mustard Seed.
Many thanks to our Community Service team for their hard work and leadership: Kristin Jennings, Kelly Sysak and Arshi Mirza. And, a special thank you to all who donated both time, funds and items. You are truly making a difference.
This month, we will be meeting to work on our strategic plan and welcome a visit from our District Governor.
We look forward to seeing you at our meetings, working together on our community service projects, and enjoying some fellowship as the new year unfolds.
And, we have heard from members that they wish to continue hybrid meetings so we are going to do our best with new technology to ensure that we can have engaging meetings for those who join us in person and virtually. ZOOM links will be included in our newsletter and sent out with weekly announcements.

Rahim Jaffer has a unique set of experiences that stems from years of work in both senior government and senior business management. Mr. Jaffer was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons on June 28, 1997, representing the Federal Electoral District of Edmonton Strathcona. At the age of 25, he was one of the youngest Members of Parliament ever elected in Canada and the first Muslim MP. He was re-elected in the subsequent federal elections of 2000, 2004 and 2006, serving nearly a dozen years in office.
Mr. Jaffer served as Chairman of National Conservative Caucus (Jan 2006-Oct 2008), Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition (Dec 01- Apr 02), Opposition Critic of Intergovernmental Affairs, Environment, Industry, Border Security. He served as a Member of the Standing Committees of Environment, Industry, Immigration and Scrutiny of Regulations. During his three years of service with the Government, he held the position of National Caucus Chair, named by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. This position played a crucial role in facilitating communication between Members of Parliament and the Prime Minister (PM).
More recently, overcoming the challenges of Covid, an economic slowdown and inflation, it is his vast experience that has allowed him to create successful opportunities in small business, regardless of these circumstances. He has extensive experience in the area of small business management in Canada and the USA. This stretches over an array of ventures from real estate, healthcare, manufacturing and retail business. Through these experiences, he has been fortunate to have a long history of successful collaborations across internal and external teams.
We invite Rotary members to participate in a year-long Food Bank Donation Challenge. Each month, we'll post a suggested list of 5 items. These may include non-food, necessity items. Feel free to play along and purchase those items, or items of your choice, and deliver them to your local Food Bank. Or, you may want to check with your local food bank first to see what they are low on at the moment. Alternatively, you may prefer to provide them with a monetary donation or monthly pledge.
Invite your friends, family, colleagues, and social media connections to participate. We ask everyone to keep track of their donations and, at the end of each month, submit them to Kitt at kittbrand@gmail.com, so we can track the impact of our contributions.
