The Coffee Cup Roundup for Operation Friendship Society (OFSS) was a resounding success! Over 100 coffee cups were donated by Whyte Avenue, Passport, and Glenora Rotary club members. The cups are anxiously awaiting delivery to their new home at OFSS as soon as it is safe to start pouring coffee in the centre again.
Whyte Avenue Who's Who
Vocational service is one of Rotary’s avenues of service and through this avenue we acknowledge contributions to our community through our vocations. New members in Rotary are given an opportunity to share their vocation by giving a classification talk. Whyte Avenue Rotary calls this opportunity a Who's Who talk because we ask our new members to share who they are, as well as what they do for a job.
With several new members in the club, we have a number of Who's Who talks to look forward to this Rotary year. Two of our newer members, Michelle and Enyinnah Okere, will be giving their Who's Who talk on Tuesday and we can' wait to learn more about them.
Strathcona Rotary and Little Warriors Need Our Help
Little Warriors is a national, charitable organization focused on the awareness, prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. As with many groups Covid-19 has temporarily eliminated many of their fundraising projects.
Little Warriors' Be Brave Ranch in Alberta needs our help! Little Warriors has an urgent need to raise an additional $15,000 for their playground rebuild at the Be Brave Ranch. They are currently in the middle of the rebuild but are short on funds to complete the project. The funds raised from this raffle will go directly to help them cover costs of the rubber crumb ground cover for fall protection.
Our Rotary district is huge, the third largest in the world, even before the addition of the Yukon in July of 2019. It has over 100 clubs, all affiliated with Rotary International; Rotary, Interact, Rotaract and Earlyact. Those local clubs have members who are filled with the spirit of volunteerism; working together as friends to fundraise and support their communities, and other communities overseas.
To help get a strong start to the Rotary year, more than 40 additional breakout sessions are being offered in July as a continuation of the Rotary Virtual Convention.
One upcoming session that may be of particular interest is Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Rotary: How Are We Doing? on Wednesday, 15 July at 10:00 Chicago time (UTC-5).
In this session, you’ll hear from Rotarians at the forefront of change, learn about Rotary’s progress on this important topic and why it matters, and discover how you can help create a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization.
